With there being a good breeze outside Tuesday, I decided to go fishing. Started off at the private lake around 3:30pm.
Stuck with the lure that always works, the JSR-4. Spent no more than 90 min there. It wasn't long before I had a fish on. First fish on the 3rd cast was a keeper yellow.
The perch bite was what was on, but after catching 3 yellows from 3" to 8", I felt a nice hit. Set the hook and felt a battle. Loosened the drag a bit so the fish could take a few runs with my 6lb Suffix mono. Felt like I was battling a 4 to 5 pounder. Got it to shore after it taking 1 jump and 2 short runs. 19" 3 pound 5 ounce largemouth.
After that I hit 2 more perch and lost 3 perch.
Was getting thirsty and the bite died down so I went to the Citgo station on White Plains Rd to get a bottled water before going to Twin Brooks.
Once I got the Twin Brooks, I started off at the lower end of the pond with the gazebo. Tried playing topwater around the weeds with a Pop-R but had no luck.
Then winds started picking up about 10 minutes after getting a text from my mom about a warning. Took cover under the gazebo while it poured with gusty winds. It was about 6:30pm when it stopped and the sun came out with cooler temps. I had a feeling that the bite turned on.
Next stop was the upper area of the pond farther up on the right. Lost the Pop-R in a tree so I switched over to a perch Original Floater F-7. Played topwater with it and also did a steady retrieve. Sunnies were pecking at it while playing topwater and had a small turtle try to go for the tail. Had a few swirls too. Lost a perch near shore with it.
3 other lures I played with in that same area were a bleeding pearl Original Floater F-7, bleeding pearl Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4, and shiner Shallow Shad Rap SSR-7. While doing a very slow retrieve with the rod tip up with the JSR-4, I was getting sunnies nipping the rear tail and lost a perch.
Moved on to more spots before hitting the road around 7:45pm.
If there wasn't that breeze today, I wouldn't have gone fishing. That heat would have outdone me! |
