Anyone know of any good bass fishing spots (SMB or LMB) in the New Haven area that I can fish from the shore? Lake Wintergreen is a craphole, so I won't even bother.

Just bought a bass pole and I'm eager to try it out.

I'd recommend the Maltby Lakes

You got that right about wintergreen Dan. Getting the pass is mandatory for the NH area. Get to know Maltby, there's some better fishing there now than in the recent past. Read some recent reports here on those ponds. Go to Saltonstall and rent a boat for 30 bucks....you'll have the time of your life if the bite is on, but it can be hit or miss. You can have a guide and boat there for $45 plus tip and the lake literally to yourself, on one day a week. Branford supply pond is ok too. I hear they're still catching decent fish in the pond in Edgewood Park...though depending on the time of day, you may want a sniper to cover your 6 while you fish. You can head out 34 and find spots near the valley. Go on google earth and zoom in on any water. Thats how I find new spots. If you're serious about bass fishing though, you'll save your pennies and find a used kayak, or canoe if you want room for two. It's a whole different world when you get out on the water and can paddle around. I realize not everyone can do this in this economy, but when I had to sell my boat, I was able to get back out of the shore casting heartache in a year with a $300 investment in a used canoe. The places I have been with it have made fishing a true sport again, and not just a folly. You have to realize, especially in a limited shore casting environment like NH, that hundreds of people have stood in the same spot. Thats why wintergreen is such a sh*thole, but it's actually a pretty good lake to fish if you can paddle away from the parking lot!

I've been using Google Earth to find new spots, but sometimes its tough determining whether or not the water is on private property.

I odn't think I'll be heading to Edgewood anytime regardless of how good the fishing is Wink

I'm thinking of checking out Farm Brook Reservoir in Hamden; everything I've been able to find says its public.
