I tried to fish down around there a few minutes once but the water was moving way too fast for me to have any control over the action of the lure. I found the experience frustrating and only stayed for about 15 minutes. I wasn't right at the dam, but off the next pull off on rt 34.

I've spent a lot of time fishing down there and I can say that when the water is moving quickly you might as well pack it up because you won't catch anything. I usually check the hydrograph on the USGS website to see when it is low. On the steep rocky side before they reinforced that fence blocking off where the water is flowing, I used to fish there a lot and had decent luck with SMB and the occasional LMB and once hooked into a beast of a fish that hit on a crank bait but snapped my line before I ever saw what it was. A lot of white perch and at night it's pretty much cats and eels. I have seen walleye cruising the rocks at night and I only know of one being caught a little down river from the dam. Some massive carp up by the dam too. I've had better luck on minnows rather than worms when fishing live bait. I usually use a heavy jig head on a green soft plastic worm and if you can cast it across the way right where the rip from the current settles then you can usually land some large smallies. I fish the place a lot, not because the rewards are good but because it's close to home and I enjoy the scenery. I've been skunked way more days than not since it's really hit or miss.

I have caught yellows, largemouths, whites, and smallies at the spot just below the dam by the pump house. The last time I was there was earlier this year while the water was low. That was the first time I had been there in years!
