I have been fishing at the quarry for 5 years now and I have gotten to know that place pretty well. I have fished all the ponds in that area. (tobies, matthies, oxford res, long meadow, ect) and this place is my favorite. Yes there is a lot of small bass and tons of crappies and rockbass but let me tell you that place is like fishing in pandoras box. When the naugatuck floods it comes over the rocks to the front right and many fish get washed in there. Earlier this year i caught a 25inch salmon there off a wacky yamamoto. I also caught a 24inch catfish and my friend caught a 23 inch bass a few years ago. I fish there with my canoe all the time and there is big fish in there you just have to work for it. The other day my friend caught a lake trout in the dead middle. I talked to a guy there who said he caught a nice carp but i havent seen one there yet. I caught 1 yellow perch ever from there and it was a monster 16incher...That quarry is a good place trust me. I use mostly yamamotos (pumpkin colored is best next to green) and other softbaits. THERE IS COPPERHEADS. I saw two of them one time wayy in back. I talked to the owner of the pond and we are not suppose to be back there because its an insurance risk so be weary.

Countryboy,
Are you the guy I ran into there a few weeks back, and you showed me the pic of a salmon caught there. I don't think you are the same person, so this is the second atlantic salmon reported being caught in the quarry. That's great. So far, I've caught only LMB there, but my son and I enjoy the fishing there. |

nice post I have been there many times myself. A couple points. I have only seen the river overflow once into there and I drive past that place everyday almost. When you say quarry do you mean tobys or the one behind the school bus company? If so I don't think you talked to the "owner" of the pond

I wouldn't presume to tell the owner whether he or she should allow fishermen to use his or her land, but there really isn't any "insurance risk" for a land owner who allows fishermen to use his or her land for free. Connecticut's Recreational Land Use Act provides land owners who make land available to the public without charge, rent, fee or other commercial service for recreational purposes immunity from liability for injury or death suffered by fishermen while using the land.
Quote: | Sec. 52-557g. Liability of owner of land available to public for recreation; exceptions. (a) Except as provided in section 52-557h, an owner of land who makes all or any part of the land available to the public without charge, rent, fee or other commercial service for recreational purposes owes no duty of care to keep the land, or the part thereof so made available, safe for entry or use by others for recreational purposes, or to give any warning of a dangerous condition, use, structure or activity on the land to persons entering for recreational purposes.
(b) Except as provided in section 52-557h, an owner of land who, either directly or indirectly, invites or permits without charge, rent, fee or other commercial service any person to use the land, or part thereof, for recreational purposes does not thereby: (1) Make any representation that the premises are safe for any purpose; (2) confer upon the person who enters or uses the land for recreational purposes the legal status of an invitee or licensee to whom a duty of care is owed; or (3) assume responsibility for or incur liability for any injury to person or property caused by an act or omission of the owner.
(c) Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the provisions of subsections (a) and (b) of this section shall be deemed applicable to the duties and liability of an owner of land leased to the state or any subdivision thereof for recreational purposes. |

I'm not sure if he was the legit owner of the place but he walked in from the construction company right by there and told me it was an insurance risk but I guess he was wrong as proven by peco.
x182dan- I'm Talking about the one behind the bus company and personally I also have only seen that place flood once but if its happened once I'm sure its happened before. When I saw it flood last year the water level rose by 4 feet and was coming over the rocks to the right (also the ones in the salmon picture) like a waterfall. If your talking about Tobys flooding I live in Beacon Falls and that place floods 2-3 times a year.
Badfisherman- I've seen a few people back there so to help make things easier were you the guy I actually fished with for a little while on the beaver dam or the one I saw walking on the trail? If you were the one on the trail I had a few friends with me and I showed you the exact same picture I posted. Were you the one that caught the carp? Me and sbehuniak09 saw what appeared to be a quite large carp jump completely airborne out of the water. Estimating size is very hard because it was a good 80 yards away but it made a very big splash and seemed atleast 20+inches
This spot isn't that bad of catfish spot. I heard they were in here but didn't catch one till last year. I caught a few off wacky yamamotos including a 24incher and one off my friends got one of spinner bait. Is it unusual for them to hit those? because I always thought they were more of a bottom feeder than attack fish. The best catfish bait I used there was 3 day old rotten squid. Caught 3 catfish in 1 morning all between 15-19 inches.
Also I have a question in determining weather this fish in this picture is a channel cat or bullhead. It looks like a bullhead because it is brown but I was looking at what a trophy bullhead which is 15inches. This seems incredibly small for a catfish and every single catfish I catch out of here is this exact one. The only reason I think they are channel cat is cause they are quite large for the most part, this is the smallest one i have caught but only one i have a picture of

Nelson,
It is located behind the bus company right on the Beacon Falls / Seymour line.
Coming north on route 8 get off the beacon falls exit. Take a left and then another left. Follow for 1 mile. Bus Company is on right |
