Tuesday was my first time back to Seaside Park in a while. After getting a few things done Downtown, I hit the cannon at Seaside starting around 4pm. High tide for Bridgeport was scheduled for 5:20pm.

First cast out with a shad Shallow Shad Rap SSR-9 and fish on! Then the line snapped and lost the lure and leader. Should have retied.

Next I played around with a purpledescent SSR-9 but nothing was interested at the cannon.

I moved over to the point and hit 1 sea robin. Saw a man throw a chunk far out and later he had a run but the fish took the bait. He had another run but no fish on. We were thinking small taylors and fluke.

I moved over to the stretch where I found it to be too weedy.

Went back over to the point and had no luck.

Went to the cannon where there were 2 ladies chunking. They weren't into anything but I caught 2 sea robins and a taylor with the SSR-9.

Things quieted down once it was 6:30pm. Tried throwing a chrome Skitter Pop SP-9, olive green Clackin Minnow CNM-9, and purpledescent Flat Rap FLR-10 all with no luck.

Threw the SP-9 and FLR-10 from the sandbar facing the harbor but no luck.

Before giving up, I decided to see what was going on at Remington. People were there and some were getting into small taylors.

I played around with the SSR-9, SP-9, and FLR-10 but wasn't having any luck. I then asked somebody what the blues were spitting up. They told me tiny snappers. I look into my surf bag to see if I had anything on the silver blue side and took out a blue sardine Saltwater X-Rap SXR-10. First cast out with that lure, fish on!

I was going to town busting those blues with the SXR-10!!!! Another fisherman was using a glass ghost SXR-12 but wasn't into them as much as I was. I let him use a flake blue Max Rap MXR-13 I had with me which changed things for him.

I caught over 10 all with the blue sardine SXR-10. Most I threw back. They were all in the 1 to 2 1/2 pound range but still were fun on my lighter action setup with 10lb Suffix mono. I even had 1 do a 4 footer like a smallmouth or tarpon!

Wanted to catch the bus Downtown to head home so I called it a night around 9pm.

This was one of my best bluefish days ever! And it was a Rapala success!

Other than size, the thing that really mattered the most was color. Seeing the blues were feeding on their newly hatched babies, a shiny blue color was the big hit.

BLUEFISH ARE MY FAVORITE FISH TO GO FOR AND I LOVE MY BLUES!!!!!

Great report Michael. I am new to the saltwater fishing and have tried chunking out at 18 and 20 over the weekend and at the mouth of the Housatonic River, all with no luck. I am going to follow your suggestions as I am not sure yet how to land one of these blues. Thanks again and keep those reports coming in.

Nice report. I might try some saltwater one day. It seems it is more likely to lose expensive lures in saltwaters though.
