I've noticed fishing with the live target frog hasnt been the greatest lately. A friend i go with has been using a brush hog and has been killing it. Any suggestions or answers to why this could be? |

I don't know why one works better than the other but I sure would tie on that brush hog and feed the fish what they want to eat! |

the water on the surface is really hot. if your not fishing at night or in shade i wouldn't use a frog right now. |

i would put a brushog up against a frog in almost any condition but thats just my personal opinion. Im not suprised its outfishing a frog right now. my boat is loaded with hogs and they produce just about all year in just about any body of water i have fished. |

apples and oranges. different baits for different situations.
In mats of alge/pads/hydrilla close to shore I would throw a frog. Especially if there are openings between the shore and cover. Where reeds or similar grass meet the water i throw a frog. Anywhere a frog would be that is near anywhere a bass would be. thats frog country. Shallow coves, stained water, lily pads, shady spots....DANGEROUS.
I pitch/flip a brush hog in holes in large dense areas of hydrilla, along the outside of weed edges, along the bottom on underwater structure and down the face of rock ledges. Through underwater weeds, next to brushpiles etc. The brush hog is a craw imitation mostly so I throw it where I might see a craw intersect with a bass.
Where are you fishing? If the area is not "frog friendly" than thats probably why its not producing. You will rarely catch a bass throwing a frog in open water.
One bait is never going to be the best across the board. You have to assess the situation and choose based on your knowledge of where the fish are most likely to be and what they will be feeding on. |
