Great day on the water at Lake Saltonstall today with Mikejiggen. My best day this season!
First ones on the water at 6am. Finally got own motor and battery so we got the boat and were off. Both of us hooked up relatively shortly to beat the skunk right away.
Worked the shoreline, focusing on cover & shady areas along the bank. I mostly threw a frog in the hydrilla mats & Mike worked the outside edge of the weedline with a shakeyhead. We caught a nice drift all the way down the lake.
Mike got this nice bass with a paddletail swimbait. The fish destroyed it. At $3 each, these could be some pricey fish!
I had several blow-ups on the frog but missed a LOT. Mike had to duck a few flying frogs as I got a little too excited and whipped it back as soon as the fish popped on it. I didnt even realize I was swing setting the hook (going back and forth from a t-rigged worm). Mike kindly reminded me to set the hook upwards and I landed a nice bass shortly afterwards.
One of my best fish came from a 9" t-rigged worm. It was about 4lbs. Cant manage to get to 5!
and another one on the worm:
We got a bunch more fish. I got some dinks that were literally smaller than the worm I was using. My 3 best were all nice fish and the blow ups on the frog kept me entertained all day...even if I wasnt catching them!
I know this lake is going to give me my 5. I have been going with Mike on Tuesdays and we are starting to develop a nice pattern. Only a matter of time.
Special thanks to Mikejiggen for piloting the boat all day and putting me on some nice fish. My turn next time... |

Have to rent an aluminum boat from them. 12-16' you can choose based on availability. You can bring your own elec trolling motor & battery or rent from them. |

Nice healthy chunks there! Looks like you had a killer day.
On the swim baits, They get beat up quickly. I cried when I got a fish with my sebile soft magic swimmer and it was tore in half. AT $12.99 a 3 pack and you only get a fish each! I was able to glue one back together, But all torn up on the next fish! I only buy them on sale now!
Go to Culprits web site. They have them on sale $1.99 a 4 pack. We just got our order and they look like they will do fine. Just passin on a deal I saw. They have some worms and frogs on sale too! I think we'll put in another order soon. _________________ PB LMB 9.3LBS Winchester Lake

Great job guys!
Last year in August and September I was getting a number of LMB, YP, WP, and CB on the edge of the weeds on the eastern side by throwing lures including Shallow Shad Rap, Jointed Shad Rap, and Shad Rap RS. Dusk topwater bite is what my buddy and I would start off with. |
