Chris and I hit the Reef on the outgoing starting around 7pm. Low tide for Bridgeport was scheduled for 9:29pm.

We started off throwing topwaters on the Bridgeport side not far from the tip of the jetty. Topwaters didn't do anything for us so I switched over to a FLR-10 while Chris continued with the topwaters.

As we followed the tide, I hit 2 fluke up to 14" and 1 sea robin with the Flat Rap. Lost 1 fluke.

Chris tried playing around with a Crystal Minnow, Jimmy's swimmer, Bomber Long A, and Red Fin. He caught 2 sea robins.

As we got about half way out, a group of fishermen were hitting small taylors on topwaters. I could smell bait in their area so we walked around on the opposite side of them and threw topwaters. I got 1 explosion on a chrome Skitter Pop SP-9 and Chris got 1 explosion on a popper.

Things slowed down with that topwater bite for everybody so I switched back over to the Flat Rap while Chris continued topwater.

I hit another 2 sea robins, 1 fluke, and 1 taylor around 1 1/2 pounds all wit the Flat Rap. Lost a fluke in front of me that looked to be a 16" keeper.

After the sun went down and it got darker with some light left, a fisherman to our right was getting hits on topwater. I switched back over to the SP-9 and started hitting the taylors. Chris wasn't having much luck with his popper and I thought it had something to do with size, so I let him use my silver blue SP-9. He started getting into them more with the SP-9.

Both of us hit a total of about 5 topwater taylors in the 1 to 2 pound range. We had just about as many other explosions and losses.

As we were still out there, Chris tripped over a rock and got soaked so it was time to head in with the topwater bite still on.

The fluke seemed more active with smaller plugs than the sea robins. Topwater had something to do with lure size. Something bigger in the 4" to 5" range didn't get as much attention as something smaller in the 3" to 4" range.

I fished there from about 830pm to 930 and caught 4 blues and lost another, all off a popper. I missed a few more strikes, too.

Chris and I went back out this evening but timing wasn't right.

Got out on the water at 9:45pm while there was still a bit of sunlight. I got 3 explosions and lost 1 with the SP-9. Chris didn't get any attention with the bigger topwaters My other SP-9 was deep in the surf bag so I couldn't get it out for Chris.

While we were still out, I was smelling bait and could see and hear small breaks all around us. Seeing the blues stopped hitting around 10pm at last light, I had a feeling the stripers moved in and were chasing bait in the shallows.

We never got into any. I had 1 wave behind the SP-9 and 1 smaller explosion as if the fish was more cautious.

Headed in around 11:15pm
