Fished Twin last night 7/6/2012 from 6PM to 3AM. The back lake was the producer at the start with buzz baits and top water. A few 5+ Lbrs were caught there. Only issue was that you needed a boat small enough to fit under the bridge so I was outa luck on a 21' Ranger with the 225 HP on the back.
We stayed in the main lake. My partner and I hit small 1lbrs through out the start of the event. About 1 an hour. Top water Spooks were getting blow ups but difficult to hook up. Black/Blue Flake Senkos were working.
Once the bite died about 9PM it was extremely slow going till about 2AM. Directly out from the launch about 300' on that large flat in about 10 feet of water my partner started slamming fish. Picked up several in the last hour on the Senko's. The smallest 3lbs and the largest 5.89 Lbs. (Lunker Winner)
I hit a good one with my Spook but lost it when my Braid untied. Fortunately the fish spit the Spook. I definitely have to switch to a polymer knot.
The fish were very finicky as to the technique, style and presentation. My partner, more experienced then I out fished me by far. A very slow presentation was needed on the bottom. The Spook got the blow ups on a 3/1 pause snap retrieve but again hook ups were far and few between.
It still wasn't enough to match the boats that fished the smaller lake. My partner placed 3rd overall out of about 9 boats.
Simply fascinating how clear that water is. In pitch black with a head lamp you can make out the details of the weeds in 15' of water. Had my first good look at a Zebra Muscle infestation. |

Water temps were 81 deg's at 6PM and 79 degs by 3:00AM. No moon until around midnight when it cleared the mountains but overcast skies dimmed the light. |

WF....I've been wanting to fish twin for a really long time. When I was a kid we owned a lot there that we used for camping and some stellar fishing trips. I remember ducking into the boat going under the bridge and just killin' em in the lower. I'd love to canoe fish there for a few days. Is the whole area totally developed with houses? Sounds like ya had a nice tourny. Good report. _________________ Dave..... I can be a pain in the bass. |

The main lake is pretty well developed but you can launch from the marina. There's a $10 launch fee. You can also rent boats with 6hp motors for the day for $50. There were a few canoe's and kayaks cruising but the back lake is the spot to hit. |

Check west twin(washinee) in the CT. anglers guide. There is a place to carry in at between the lakes road. No charge for launching if I remember correctly. You won't see any big boats over there.
East twin during weekdays isn't too bad, But weekends can get busy with skiers and jet-ski's. Very pretty lake to fish, Especially in the fall! _________________ PB LMB 9.3LBS Winchester Lake

I'm definitely looking to hit Washinee JJ. That's where I remember great things happening as a kid. Anyone know if there's camping close by, or a no tell-motel in the area? I'd like to make it a 2 day trip as I couldnt be driving farther and still be in CT. _________________ Dave..... I can be a pain in the bass. |

Thanks for the info JJ. Boy I wish the old man kept that lot. He had to sell it when my sister was born. I'd trade her in for a house on Twin any day of the week...lol. Think I'll check out campgrounds and state parks. Great Barrington's a ride, and i'd rather swap comfort and $ and the inn keepers breakfast, for a fire to grill fish, and a couple extra bucks in my pocket. Guess that's not the neck of the woods for a super 8. _________________ Dave..... I can be a pain in the bass. |
