After sleeping in for the morning and early afternoon, I decided to head out to Twin Brooks Park hoping for the evening topwater bite everybody's been talking about.

Arrived at the main cove of the main pond at 5:20pm. Lures I played around with were a baby bass Tiny Torpedo, baby bass Pop-R, purpledescent Shallow Shad Rap SSR-7, brown trout Jointed J-7, vampire Original Floater F-7, and perch Original Floater F-7. All so no attention. While I was still in that cove I could see little ripples on the surface moving in different directions and noticed it was bait. Nothing seemed to be chasing them because I tried throwing into the school and never saw any breaks or swirls.

Moved on to the island and smaller cove but nothing.

Made my way over to the pond with the gazebo and played topwater around the shallow weeds. Nothing was interested in the Pop-R but was getting attention on the Tiny Torpedo.

First fish on along the weeds was a 15" pickerel. Saw a few bass slowly swimming along the edge of the weeds but they didn't show any interest. I had 2 other explosions but no hook set. The 2 explosions seemed to be pickerel.

Later I moved over to the next pond up on the right. Played topwater and Rapala but nothing where I'd usually hit them. Lost 2 bass on the jump with the Tiny Torpedo farther down that pond. Both bass hit it right as I started reeling it in.

Last stop was the cove at the larger pond where 2 brooks feed in. Nothing with the SSR-7 this time and a silver shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4 didn't produce either.

Last cast of the evening while using the Tiny Torpedo, I get a huge explosion and see a nice pickerel make a leap out of the water like a rainbow. Set the hook and the fight was on. Felt it pulling on my 6lb Suffix. Right as I get it to shore, I started to get worried because some line went around a tiny branch sticking out of the water. I took my pliers out right away and went down to the fish so I could grab the mouth with the pliers while I broke the branch.

Solid 19" 2 pound pickerel that seemed to be eating

Then hit the road just after 8pm.

A slower steady retrieve with the Tiny Torpedo only showed interest with sunnies. The retrieve that was getting the pickerel to hit was a jerk every full second.

Nice fishing! Looks like that pickerel has been eating well!

At Twin Brooks, an also Beardsley, pickerel and bass have plenty of sunnies to feed on, esp redbreasts. I could tell that pickerel had 1 or 2 smaller ones in it.

just come out and say it Michael. Ya slept all freakin day and got up for the evening bite. No ones going to judge you here. We would all do that every day, if it wasnt for the women folk. I'm extremely jealous. I had to get up at 4am for the yak outing and schlep off to Lebanon. I work nights in the ER. 4am is the time I go to bed, not get up. Nice report. That's a mighty fine pickerel. If I can get one that size, I might try to fillet it. Watched a couple y-bone filleting videos and I'm itching to try it.
