The DEP sprayed pesticide on the lake on 6/26. Much of the vegetation is dying and the Hayward Association are a bunch of pussies who can't handle some lily pads in "their" swimming area.
The fish don't seem to be affected much by it in terms of their physical nature, but it certainly has thrown them for a loop.
That is all. |

Thanks for the report. My GF's parents have a lake house on Hayward and i'll be there this weekend. I hope to do some fishing in there little boat, i've been out a few times. The DEP guide shows there to be LM,SM, panfish, and Pickerel. Is that accurate?
Since the DEP put in pesticide does it seem to have slowed the bite down? _________________ A bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work |

I don't know much about Hayward, but the good news is if all else fails you have Moodus, Bashan, and Pickerel Lake all right down the road. _________________ Steve |

LMB
SMB (few and far between)
Pickerel
Yellow Perch
Bluegill
..and I'm sure there are trout although I don't target them and have never caught one, they have the depths needed to hold over.
Caught a 4 lb pickerel there earlier this year, prior to the spraying. The lake had it moments when I was there last, but there were only certain areas the bass were holding. Forget shallow right now, unless it's dawn, dusk or the dead of night. You need to find 8+ feet of water and shade or it could make for a long day in East Haddam.
The spraying hasn't slowed down the bite at all. The only thing it has changed slightly is where the bass are located now. With a lot of the vegetation dead, the baitfish have had to find new places to call home, and if you understand the food chain, you'll understand why the whole place had shifted. |

I'm on vacation next week (thank you 5 lb 8 oz baby Jesus!) and staying in the area. Plan on hitting up each lake at least once. My buddy and I are going to pretend to be locals and tell fish stories to all the diners we hit up.. should be a solid time. |

I fished there this past sunday morning. Was a pretty slow morning, the fish are definitely down deep there. Caught two average size largemouths jigging in the middle and using a wacky senko. The water is extremely warm right now, so like i said, i have to imagine the fish are deep there. _________________ A bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work |

Did you have a baby or catch a lunker? Just wondering. . . . _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

HA!! Neither.. I was thanking baby Jesus for being on vacation. For some reason or another I just always assumed Jesus was born 5 lbs 8 ozs. I'm going to refrain from religious speak in this thread, but at the same time, can you believe baby Jesus isn't even up to weight with trophy smallmouth standards?! |
