I believe it, See the photo. My little son and I were bank fishing and he hooked a bass on his little bluegill rod. It broke off and swam away. A few hours later I caught it. Still had his hook, crawler and about 2 foot of line in its mouth.
All I'll say is picture are deceiving(the fish in this photo went 5 3/4 on my scale(and a calculator put it just over 5). I always try to carry a tape and my scale. In a pinch I have used some fishing line to get both length and girth. Use a calculator to get you close(and most are under what the fish actually weighed from my experience).
This one is the best by far I have seen for bass(its from another forum so I will hack the link-fix the hxxp to http to get you there!).

I usually don't get into the pizzin match of yadda yadda on what it weighed, But the head is huge and its got some girth. But its a bit lean IMHO(not enough to get full potential) It will go more than 3 but 6 might be pushing it some.
And I will also add your getting out there, Its better than not and you got your line in the water! Guess we know why someone is called cranky! _________________ PB LMB 9.3LBS Winchester Lake

I dont care much about speculating on weight from pictures, but I'd bet my last buck it's the same fish. Look at the tail trauma on the april catch, lower fin...and thats not grass. It's bloody. Now look at the slight black "V" in the exact place, 3 months later. Thats a battle scar where it healed. Nice catch boys!! And fish wherever you want to fish. The rules of fishing are set up by the DEEP, not Mr CrabbyPants. _________________ Dave..... I can be a pain in the bass. |

Well before you talk about my fishing ability like that...please consider my other posts on non golf course ponds...I fish them because they are close and being young and having to pay for my own gas its the best thing for me. And you like many others like to pick on my ability to tell q a an apx weight of a bass. That's well over 3 pounds. Here's a the pounder legit weighed on a digital scale.
Plus who are you to say I don't see you posting about the bass your catching...the one time I recall you posting you said you got skunked...sounds to me like you haven't seen a three pounder in a while. Want to see another three pounder go to PECo's lakeside park post in the lake fishing reports and look at his last bass...three pounds. The lengths and girth place that fish between mid 5s or 6 pounds. Phil if you read this please explain to this man how pictures so not do their justice and what your rule for bass weight in Connecticut is. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

No matter what the fish weighed it's a nice fish! I don't know why people get so worked up over this BS. It doesn't affect me if they say it was 20lbs or 2lbs. I won't lie about what I catch or where. If someone else wants to stretch the truth they have to live with their lie not me. Don't get so worked up over crap that doesn't affect you. |

Off topic, But that was the start of my little bass buddy. Bluegils were still fun, But he wanted to catch bass. Not only did he get better gear, We bought a small boat shortly after. As he grew, Pop's wallet shrank. We've slowly built an arsenal including the 17' stratos to hunt for them. Worth every penny too! _________________ PB LMB 9.3LBS Winchester Lake

Who am I to say? Someone who is allowed to have an opinion on a public and open forum, that's who.
I'm sorry I don't take pictures of every fish I catch.
I'm sorry I don't make an internet post after every time I fish.
I'm not getting worked up over this at all. I couldn't care less anymore; I just don't think it's a 6 lb fish, that is all. |

By DEEP Standard of Measurement with out a Scale (Posted in the Anglers Guide)
Largemouth Bass
Smallmouth Bass
Black Sea Bass
Length x Length x Girth
1,200
Length 22 x 3 x 15 Girth (Divided by 1200) = 6.3Lbs! |

Bass tend to hang around in the same areas. If they move around, theyll be back. Ive lost lures on fish only to have them surface a half an hour later right next to where I lost it.
And I am a bad weight guesser. If I caught that Id be thinkin at least 5. Its so hard to tell with pictures, the angle & perspective as well as the back and foreground can alter perception. I am always disappointed with pics of fish I was really happy with in the boat.
Id be happy with that one, no matter what it weighed!

not to sound like a jerk, but that fish is 4.5 at best, but its still a nice catch anyday! congrats on a nice fish! kingkranky is right, you should fish bigger bodies of water that are more capable of producing giants, CTRiver, Candlewood, mcdonough, lakeville, highland, mashapaug, are some well known big fish producers! -Dan |
