Your not going to believe this, but my brother and I caught the same goddamn bass...look at the black blotches in strip along its body. Also look at the black blotch on the gill, the bulge of the belly, and the tail has a darker spot in the middle of the fork. We went fishing today cause my brother wanted to hit the pond I've been doing so weel at and hopefully catch a bass like the one I got the day before. After taking my advice and using my floating frog my brother caught 1 nice keeper and lost one. I caught about 4 on my horny toad until my brother gave my frog to the fishing gods by casting it into a tree...He decided he wanted to wacky rig since he started catching fish with it this summer since I introduced it to him. Because he had foolishly left he senkos at home I gave him my last one, but warned that I hadn't gotten a big fish on senkos at this pond since early april when I got the fish in this picture. He threw the senko anyways and got a big hit immediately after twitching it a bit along the bottom on the 3rd or 4th cast. He set the hook and knew it was big. The fish leaped 2 or so feet out of the water and then dove down into the weeds. I dropped my new scale that he got me that I was trying to open and ran over yelling, "let me grab it for you!" "keep the line tight!". He brought it the shallow water and I quickly lipped the fish. His new pb! I had thought it was slightly smalller than my pb, but I was wrong. We quick snapped some pictures and opted not to finish opening the scale because the fish was already under alot of stress. So we just set it free safe and sound for the second time in the Flint family history. It was great seeing him catch a big bass and even better realizing at him later on that it was the same fish that I caught for my pb. He fishes with me a good amount. As much as he can, but hes been busy at work and getting ready for his wedding this saturday. WHAT AN EXCITING WEEK!!!! Wish we had a weight though.

NOTE:
I have, however, caught many fish since that bass that may be contenders for a new pb, but I will never know because picture are so deceiving and I didn't have a scale then. I do know that, that fish was about 22 inches and the girth was just shy of 15 inches. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

I think the picture of me is a little stretched from right to left if it looks messed up. My bad with the resizing and cropping. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

Look at the tails of the two fish. The one you caught has a more beat up tail than the other one. But they do look extremely similar. You seem to be getting some nice fish! _________________ YouTube Channel: NorthEastFisherman |

The one I caught was near a bed so it could be mangled from that and that would heal, and the parts that look like tears in the tail is grass because as much as I don't want to say it, its true I dragged him onto the grass. If you look at the second black blotched though there is a z shaped blotch on both fish and below that an x shaped one. Plus there is the spot on the gill. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

If you look at mine its red and beat up on the tail in that one spot and on the other fish its darkened there from where it healed. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

Yeap, I think you're right. I know that I've caught the same fish a couple of times, too. But my photos tend to be taken much closer to the fish, so it's easier to see.
How much did you estimate that it weighed when you caught it and when your brother caught it? Did you think it was heavier when you caught it? _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

No the scale was still in the package. I estimated it to about 6 but everyone said it was less on here more like 5. I still think 6 based on the dimensions. I think it was heavier when I got it during spawn time...but it looks similar maybe its a big male? _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

she dont look 6 to me in my opinion. Only real way to know is to weight it. Ive seen it to many times before.......especially with the new guys that are new to bass fishing in general. Most of the time the catch is over estimated. Nice fish non the less. the length x girth estimate is a general rule but to be used lightly.
If you beleieve that is the same fish and it weighed more when you caught it in the spring then that might suggest its a female.Since that fish has never been weighed there is now way to find out. unless that male had a full belly when you caught it then I cant seem to find a reason why HE would weigh less now, unless its not eating as well as it was. Big females however can swing alot in weight before and after they spawn out. |

Hoppy,
Thanks for the input. I caught a 5 pounder the day before and this fish was longer...maybe not much fatter but definitely longer, so maybe it wasn't 6 pounds but just under. And i'm not new to bass fishing! I've been doing out for awhile!!! _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

Based on the fact that you're fishing at Traditions in a golf course puddle, it very well could be the same fish. But 6 lbs? Really? It looks like 3.5 lbs, at most, in any of the pictures you posted. I know we're supposed to upscale the fish we catch when we brag about them to our friends or internet hounds, but you posted a picture man.. 3 lbs.
Gotta get yourself off the golf course and onto a real body of water. Test your skills, which have improved as evidence from the board. Challenge yourself. |
