thats Peco and my report for McDonough today. If there was a good thing about id have to say meeting Peco for the 1st time or him getting to see some parts of the lake he hadnt really before. Bluebird skis, water temps in the 80's according to my finder...........We caught fish but nothing worth talking about. Bites were here and there mostly on DS w/ worms. We worked areas all over the lake today that in the past have been my "route". After today i need to find a new "route" and next time back i will spend more time trying to find the bigger smallies. spots were dead..............some produced nothing and that isnt the norm. Oh well thats fishing! got home just in front of the storm and cooled down. thanks for joining me today Peco.....sorry we didnt do aswell as I anticipated but I hope the DS rod will find alittle more time in your hands in the future. I swear it can be killer and today was not a true representation of what it can do. Got to try a new Mojo rod today for the first time and like it.......but not matched up with my 10 yearold beatup quantum baitcasting reel. I havent fished since the Bantam T and even though we didnt hammer them today was nice just to be out and not doing something like work. Thanks again Peco. |

It was one of the slowest days we had all year. I almost though we took a wrong turn and we were on winchester. I didn't check the barometer, I am thinking we had a low that bugged em out some. _________________ PB LMB 9.3LBS Winchester Lake

I had a spectacular day! I'm about to post about it. While I only fished for an hour it was the best hour in ages. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

Yeah, what hoppy (aka Mark) said!
The fishing was tough all morning, but I still had a great time. First of all, I got to meet Mark. Second, a day on the water is always better than a day off the water in my book. Mark showed me how to fish a drop shot, from rigging it to picking spots to fish it. I had putzed around with drop shotting before, but learned a lot. Although I couldn't resist throwing a wacky Senko and a small swimming jig a few times, I pretty much stuck with the drop shot all day. And it was the only thing that produced fish. I definitely have a whole new perspective on Lake McDonough. I'll never just pound the shore there, again. Thanks, Mark!
When we entered with the "waiting for the gate to open" crowd, an MDC Officer inspected boats, and checked out boat registrations, boating safety certificates, fishing licenses and Mark:
Hey, I didn't hear her ask anyone else for their phone number, Mark. Just kidding, Mrs. hoppy. Yeap, whoever does the hiring for the MDC, I want YOUR job! After we got on the water and out to the first spot, I saw a school of largemouth bass checking out the four inch finesse worm on my drop shot. I could see that they were near the bottom in 15 feet of water, and I wasn't even wearing sunglasses. Yeap, the water is THAT clear at Lake McDonough. The school wasn't interested in doing anything other than taking a cursory nip at my worm. In hindsight, that was a bad sign. After seeing their reluctance to bite, I swapped out the worm for a Pearl Silver 2-1/2 inch Gulp! Minnow. However, their reluctance to bite didn't stop Mark from being a bad captain and boating the first fish with a drop shot finesse worm:
What can you say? How about "Sorry!' However, it wasn't long before I got the first fish of my own:
Seriously? About 20 minutes later, just as we were preparing to change spots, I got a good hit on the Minnow. I set the hook and pulled the fish up a bit, before I saw the flash of a long belly and the fish was gone. I think that it was a decent chain pickerel, although it might have been a huge trout. On the way to the next spot, I re-rigged my drop shot, but with a worm this time. About 15 minutes later, I finally got a largemouth bass:
Mark followed it up with another largemouth bass and then a smallmouth bass, but everything was small:
I think that the biggest fish we got were in the neighborhood of 1-1/4 pounds, and that's not a very good neighborhood. Here are our lunker smallmouth and largemouth bass;
Check out Mark's Lady Pflueger Combo. I mean, Mark's wife's lady Pflueger Combo. I think that it's time for you to get a new reel to pair with your Mojo Bass rod, Mark. And thanks, again. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

I could only cast like 100ft. But the pink lady was there....calling my name ready to go. so out she came and yes thats the most action the pink lady has seen in about two years since my wife last used her. hey you know what....its not a bad rod!!! Pink may just be my color!! |

If it puts fish in the boat? I'd use pink as well.
