After a severe thunderstorm passed during my work out I made the decision to head over to a local pond near a golf course that produces large bass consistently. As soon as I got there I knew its be a good as I bass began slamming zoom horny toads. All fish at that point were about 12 to 14 inches. I had one miss right in front of me. It was a 4+ pounder that was sitting no more than 3 feet from me under a clump of algae. It tried to slam the frog as I picked out out of the water, but it missed it...damn. So I continued around the tiny pond and kept throwing the toad and catching more dinks until I got a huge hit way back across the pond deep into the bushes. It was a good cast that payed off. I waited the set the hook hard. The fight was on. I had to maneuver the fish over a pipe the ran parallel to the shore in the middle if the pond. I was let off easy when the fish leaped about 2 feet in the air over the pipe. I faught it to the shore and reached down the steep bank and lipped it. As I began taking the hook outI hear a loud thump that scared the crap out of me. I knew it wasn't the thunder that had been occurring all day so looked 2 feet to my right and saw a golf ball sitting there. ''what the hell?!'' I was about 200 yards from the side of the course which was separated by dense woods and tall oak trees. Amazed at how bad this person was at golf...I picked up there ball. Back to the fish though. I went toward a near by condo where I often talk to the older couple who live there about my fishing. I asked them to take a picture for me and they happily came down and did so. And this is it. It was almost 21 inches...all I have is a tape measure though.

Nice bass rmf. As we've discussed, I love golf course ponds!! Nothing better on them than frogs too. Sounds like you go lucky with the irrigation pipe. Thats why I fish frogs on 50# braid. I'm a little disappointed about the golf ball though. I think it should have been released so some day it could grow up to be a golf ball that gets hit onto a fairway. Are you going to mount it, or have a fiberglass replica made? _________________ Dave..... I can be a pain in the bass. |

The golf course I fish has a pond with 2 pipes with water draining out to a deep cove at shore. That's where I got my PB pig. Bass and bluegills hang out thick in that spot during pre-spawn.
Nice job Ryan |

My newer avatar is a 6 1/2 pounder I caught at another one of the ponds at the golf course I fish. I have my own names for each pond I fish there. |

Are you fishing in the ponds at the golf course Tradition in Wallingford? I have also seen monster carp in the ponds there. |

Nice catch! It has a nice fat belly too. Maybe it eats golf balls. |

Yes its near the tradition, but not directly on the course. I haven't a clue about the weight...it was heavy, not my pb though. I should mount the golf ball that almost killed me though lol. If I did die at least I'd die happy doing what I love with a lunker in hand. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

Your's or the kid's?
I'd guess your's is close to or at 5lbs and the other one based on the measurements should be around 8lbs or so. |

Berkley makes a fine little 50# digital for under 20 beans at wallymart. If not...at least measure girth too. Then you can use one of the many length X girth tables on the net. It's next to impossible to guess from a picture in a forum without fifty people arguing about it. Not here so much, but I've seen it go on for pages elsewhere.
