Went to Keeney Cove with a few of my buddies. Using live medium shiners and nightcrawlers as bait. Only fishing from shore around Point Road. Quickly caught a sunnie of a shiner under a bobber. I friggin hate sunfish- bait stealers. I then saw a gentleman catch a very good sized sucker. Not a desirable fish but had great size to it. Me and my friends then moved near him which was right on the bridge. We just kept on catching sunfish off the nightcrawlers. That same gentleman caught a 23' largemouth off a Rapid Reaction Bluegill- CT Outfitters is the only place i've seen these lures. Fished for a total of 3 hours and got 13 sunfish and a small Yellow Perch between the 3 of us. Not a great day but it was better than a fish-less day!

If you didn't use live bait as much you wouldn't catch as many sunfish !!!! I think I've only got 5 sunnys in 3 years ! But hundreds of bass ! Haven't used live bait for anything but stripers in the past 4 years! Now the only time i Get sunfish is on really slow wacky rigs!! Wont stop your sunfish problem completely.....but it lowers the chances of getting sunfish if u use artificial lures!! Good luck

Have to agree with the smooth one on LMB fishin with live bait. They share too much space with sunnies. You will make for some nice fat sunfish that way though. I will deep dropshot once in a while with big live bait lip hooked, but the rubber swimbaits are so good now, I even question why do that.
