so yesterday i hit candlewood for my first time. after a long 1 1/2 hour drive to candlewood, we got on the water at 2 PM (squantz pond state park launch). we asked some people how the fishing was that day and they said it was bad but i knew fishing the lake for the first time would be hard because we dont know any good spots.

we didn't get any bites until about 5 pm when my dad felt a small tick on his line, but couldn't get the hook set good enough and the fish got away. i tried fishing a different bait because my super flukes weren't working the the deep bass. i took my trusty senko out and wacky rigged it. it was about 6 pm and i threw my first cast with the senko and the fish would take it slowly. we caught about 20 SMB, here are the first 2 we caught that day and then my phone battery ran out.

the biggest we caught was a 4.5 lbs SMB on the senko, and it amazed me at how high some of these fish could jump. the fish stopped biting at around 7:30 pm

we fished some docks coming back to the boat launch and got a small LMB but that was it for the day. we got off the water at about 8pm

im hoping to hit candlewood again on monday, is there any good spots people are willing to give up?

4.5 lb smallie sounds freaking sweet. Im hitting up candlewood on monday after work for my first time with a friendand her dad, im pretty psyched.

Oh and you know 4 lb + is a trophy fish for small mouths. You get a pin from the DEEP. Do people on here do that?

Those are some chunk smallies lax, and Candlewood is not an easy lake to fish, let alone on the first time. Nice day out!

If you get a pin from a 4lb smallmouth i could probably get a couple!! To tell you the truth, there is no secret spot on candlewood for me. Everywhere we go we seem to get nice smallmouth. Find a flat that stays at about 20FOW and dropshot a minnow midway(8-12FOW). Ive gotten lots of big fish in candlewood on minnows. Im sure if you casted gulp minnows along rocky shore lines youll get some nice ones!!
