|
|
Hey gang,
Check out the big sow my son hauled out a Lake McD today right after the Thunderstorm passed. Length was 23" and girth was 17". This will get him the trophy fish award he's been wanting and a replica mount for the wall. She was set free to be caught again another day!
Before the storm fishing was fair, Just a few 2-3 pounders. Water surface temp was 76.2 before the storm and dropped to 75 after.

very nice and couldnt have been caught by anyone better! I love seeing the little guys catch the big one.
Peco and myself were there today from 8:00 until about 1:30. I would have to say it was hands down one of the worst trips I have had there in years. No solid fish anywhere, all my spots were dried up, and there seems to be alot less grass this year then years past. It was hot out there early and all in all we probably caught approx 12 of mixed bag of smallies and largies. Mostly runts and 1lbers. Usually its 2's and three's. It was my first time out there this year so ill use that as an excuse.... but like I said it was tough out there and we worked hard for the little we got. |

I fogot to add................the bite did seem to pickup just as we left at around 1:30 i think we banged 3 or 4 fish at our last stop. I did notice some clouds rolling in but really didnt notice how dark they were until i was driving home and could see them in the rear view mirror. Guess we should have stuck it out! where did you take shelter? unfortunatly i had to leave then. Were you able to get a weight on her? |

Good to see people are getting replicas instead of the real fish being mounted. _________________ YouTube Channel: NorthEastFisherman |

Nothing makes me happier than seeing a kid with his trophy fish. That's a really healthy fish too. Great shoulders, and a fat gut. She'll look very nice cast in glass. Congrats pop!! He'll never forget that trip. _________________ Dave..... I can be a pain in the bass. |

We sheltered in one of the huts by a beach. Pulled the boat up on shore. The rain only lasted 1/2 an hour or so. Yes, we weighted her, But no one will believe it. So I probably won't post the weight! It wasn't 6 or even 7 . She definitely had a full tummy!
I read your report, It about summed up our day until after the storm. Shore line weeds do seem to be thin, But there is plenty in deeper water. We were fishing the grass flats earlier, We dragged a few up off the bottom with CR's. Then the fish seemed to suspend. Crankbaits and swimbaits got most of our fish. But after the storm we hit submerged structure. Mostly stumps I have on GPS. Texas rigged worms and deep crankbaits finished the day. I kind of figured they would be tight to structure after the storm. Funny how 1 good fish changes the whole days outcome!
I'll send you a PM, Maybe we saw you out on the water? _________________ PB LMB 9.3LBS Winchester Lake

One thing I will say about the weight, and I dont care much what it is....is that the reason I have gravitated to this forum from some others is the good sportsmanship here. Pictures are so deceiving, so I can understand your reluctance to post a big weight if it doesnt quite look all that in the photo. I would hope that nobody would be a jerk about it. Whatever.....just a great story, and I
m thrilled for both of you. _________________ Dave..... I can be a pain in the bass. |

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Job well done by your son dad!!! Congrats to your son and that's a fish he will never forget!
Years ago back in April 2007 I hit a largemouth very similar to your son's. Had a length of 22" and a girth of 20.5". I thought it must have been feeding heavily on the bluegills and pumpkinseeds I always catch in the pond I got it at. |
