My dad and I hit the Charles Island Sandbar just before high tide and fished it til sunset.
I was the first to get out there and saw bait on the surface. Threw a chrome Skitter Pop SP-9 but never got into any topwater. The bait made its way farther out to see.
My dad made it out into the water and he started throwing a topwater. I switched over to the purpledescent Flat Rap FLR-10. First cast out with the FLR-10 caught me a short fluke. My dad wasn't into anything topwater.
I stuck with my trusty FLR-10 while my dad played around. He tried a few other poppers, threw a silver blue Rebel Minnow, a shallow swimmer, and a Bomber Long A.
I caught a 3 pound taylor with the FLR-10 right as the tide started going out. As sunset got closer, we were seeing occasional pods of bait on the surface making their way east. While my dad and I worked the first one, I snagged an adult bunker that had a number of scratches on it. No blue or striper ever grabbed it as I reeled it in.
My dad eventually landed a taylor no bigger than a pound on the Bomber facing towards Milford Harbor. I got 2 other hits with the Flat Rap on that side. 1 was a fluke and the other was a blue. Nothing showed interest in the Shallow Shad Rap SSR-9.
My dad and I headed in around sunset.
From recent reports from others and recent fishing, you want to be surf fishing east of Bridgeport Harbor to get into the bait and fish. Not much showing as for bait and fish, other than sea robins, more towards Seaside Park, Penfield, Southport, and Saugatuck. One of my buddies caught a 32" striper on Pleasure Beach and Chris showed me a pic of a nice gator he caught at the Milford Audubon.

Does it cost money to get into Walnut? I used to go there many many years ago and actually forgot about that place! _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....
