Wasn't feeling tired much Monday night so I decided to stay up and head out for an early morning bite at Twin Brooks. The forecast was saying clouds moving in and winds picking up around 10am so my plan was to stay til 11am.
Arrived at my first stop around 5:30am, which was the southern part of the pond with the gazebo. No topwater action there this time on the Tiny Torpedo and Pop-R.
Moved on to the opposite end of that pond and didn't hit anything there.
Next stop was the upper areas of the pond on the right after passing the circle. Missed out on 1 bass with the Tiny Torpedo and caught a 1 pound 1oz bass with it. Plenty of bluegills were pecking at the tail.
After another 5 to 10 casts and not getting anything else with the Tiny Torpedo, I decided to play around with lures. Lures I tried included 4cm silver shad Jointed Shad Rap, 7cm perch Shallow Fat Rap, 6cm silver Flat Rap, 7cm firetiger Clackin Minnow, 7cm bleeding pearl Original Floater, 7cm baby bass Shallow Shad Rap, 7cm purpledescent Shallow Shad Rap, 7cm bluegill Shallow Shad Rap, 7cm shad Shallow Shad Rap, and 7cm shiner Shallow Shad Rap.
Lures that ended up showing signs of life were the Shallow Shad Raps in colors Purpledescent, Bluegill, and Shiner. Caught another 1 pounder with the shiner Shallow Shad Rap, lost 1 with the purpledescent Shallow Shad Rap, and caught 1 with the bluegill Shallow Shad Rap. Also caught a pickerel with the shiner SSR and had perch following it.
The pickerel took the lure deep and the tail hook damaged its gill. I was thinking about keeping it so I made sure I measured it seeing how small it was. Hit it right on the dot! Perfect 15" long.
Moved on to the main pond and hit a number of spots there. Caught a small bass with the purpledescent SSR.
Worked a few areas of the larger pond with the Tiny Torpedo seeing how weedy it has gotten but nothing.
Last stop was where the brook that comes from the larger pond feeds into the Pequonnock at a bend. Saw a few bass there so played around with a few lures. 2 lures that they seemed interested in were the Clackin Minnow and a Creme worm. Missed out on a bigger one with the Clackin Minnow and a smaller one kept grabbing the worm. They seemed to be playing it safe because they saw me.
Seeing it was just after 10:30am, I decided to hit one of the small ponds.
Fish weren't interested in any Shallow Shad Raps so I threw the Tiny Torpedo. Caught 3 dinks and landed a nice 2 pound 1oz bass. Gave me a fight more like a 3 or 4 pounder.
Nothing else happened with the Tiny Torpedo so switched over to the Jointed Shad Rap. Missed out on a few fish that felt more like bluegills and smaller bass.
Hit the road around 12:30pm |

Nice day! I need to start trying to hit multiple spots in one day. Most of the time I spend all day fishing one area of the river or a lake. Might be a good idea to switch it up if something is close. _________________ Steve |

I've heard different versions. Some say if you stick with one good spot and are patient, you will be more productive. Others say if nothing happens for a while, just move around, and cover more water. |

Yeah it goes both ways for sure. I've been at some places for 5-6 hours and only caught a few fish. Later I regretted not also trying the lake right next door. _________________ Steve |

'Tis better to go to the fish than to wait for them to come to you. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Sometimes I cover the whole lake and at the end only regret not to stay at a spot where I catch two fish in an hour |
