Just curious if anyone here has taken a kayak out on lake zoar. I'm thinking about giving it a try.

Never a kayak but going back a few years I took my float tube in and fished jacksons cove. So why not a kayak?!

When I was in HS I paddled from the Cornwall bridge to Derby. I was in the middle of Zoar on a beautiful morning when I saw this cloud coming at me. It was a Bass Tourny starting. I thought the blue angles were coming by me when they passed. After soiling my shorts, I bailed the water out and carried on. Last time I'm in the middle of Zoar for any reason. Lots of spots on the edges though.

Frenches Cove next to the Stevenson Dam on the Oxford side is usually a fairly quiet place as well. Last week we were hauling in white perch like crazy, hit a few nice crappie by a dock and my daughter's friend caught a very nice smallie (guessing close to 3 lbs) on a 1'5" grub jig. The north shore of that cove has a nice fast drop off from 8' to about 24'. It certainly isn't the most productive place on the lake but it fishes well on certain days. I have also gotten some nice fish drop shotting a little further out where the mouth of the cove opens up.

I would suggest getting there early or going later in the day after boat traffic resides.

Im sure on a weekday you should be fine with boat traffic but i strongly suggest to go on a saturday or sunday because i have a few friends that go there with their brothers in college to go wakeboarding and tubing. Zoar has alot of partying people on it.

Yes I agree with not going on weekends. We have a sit on top and had my wife, daughter, dog, and I on it, but it was not fun at all. The wakes created by the bogger boats were a real pain. We stayed so close to shore it really wasn't much fun. I prefer the smaller areas with 8mph speed limits,

I went there yesterday and it wasn't too bad. I have a 4 person inflatable raft row boat with the opition of a trolling motor. I havn't bought one yet, but I will soon. It wasn't too busy out but the wakes by some of the boats were too much to handle. I did manage to catch 3 small mouth bass which was nice. It's a beautiful lake, but I definitely recommend at least a trolling motor.
