Went fishing from the ferry park dock in Rocky Hill. Using only nightcrawlers for bait. Between my 3 friends we probably caught 20 fish in 3 hours. LOTS of small channel catfish and a few perch, white and yellow. Then I saw a man using a strange bait and I asked him what it was. He said it was raw steak and gave me a chunk to use. Within 20 minutes I caught a 2 foot eel, which was very exciting. Overall a good day on the water. Quite a bit of fish but no size to them. |

I saw an episode of River Monsters with Jeremy Wade, in which he said that eels are attracted to the scent of blood. The only eel I've seen was caught at Batterson Park Pond while jugging with a nightcrawler on a hook. I'd bet that the nightcrawler was a little bit bloody. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

There's a ton of eels in Hamburg Cove too. Last year I was using live bait and caught at least 20 of them...definitely NOT interested in swimming in there LOL _________________ Steve |

Well, I guess that's a good reason to stick with artificial lures, then. I didn't know that eels are in Hamburg Cove in significant number. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Peco I always see you writing good reports and always catching stuff so if you were to give me 2 spots that are your favorite, what would they be? |

Here are several:
Hamburg Cove before Memorial Day, when the weeds grow in and the drunk yachters show up.
Batterson Park Pond, because it's convenient to my house in Avon and has a terrific variety of fish.
Lake Winchester, which is the lake on which I'd most like to have a house. Although it can be a tough place to fish successfully, it's always a beautiful place to paddle.
Out of state, I agree with Mike Iaconelli that Lake Champlain is the place to be in the northern states. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
