It's that time of year again! Hit a shallow swamp in mass today from 6am to 1pm and slayed the bass on green and black scumfrogs. Depth ranged from 1-5ft, in medium to thick density pad fields. A twitch every 20 seconds did the trick. And a minimum of 20lb braid was a must. I got the lunker of 4lbs 13oz out of 1ft of water in superthick pads on a jig, which was the only jig fish of the day. Our big frog fish were 3lbs 14oz, 3lbs 8oz, 3lbs 4oz, and 2lbs 13oz. The fishing really seemed to heat up just as the temp increased, and slowed when there was a slight breeze.

We also saw those guys in the background pull in a 4lb 8oz on a rubber worm first thing in the morning, and we also saw someone else pull in a 4lb 4oz fish on a 10" worm. This is really unusual for this place, since we hardly come across any fish over 3.5lbs here. _________________ Catch and release only.
A 4lb bass is not going to grow to 8lbs on your wall.

Almost all of my best bass for the last month have come on bruiser 4" watermelon/party frogs, including two big 4+ while trolling open water. I loves me some frogs!! My lilly/garden pole has 50# braid with 30# fluro leader, and I havent had a snap off yet this year. _________________ Dave..... I can be a pain in the bass. |

I am having fantastic luck with frogs this past week. Right around 6pm to around 9:00pm. Throw them in the pads or onto shore and walk them into the water.
WHACK!
killing them. This is in a private lake I was sure was filled with dinks. Thats all I ever got there. The big ones love frogs! |
