Once again, forgot all about this site.. been too busy working and fishing Lake X to remember what the internet is.

Lake X reports are fine. I'm a catch and release fisherman only and I understand the potential agony it would bring to watch someone at your favorite lake take a monster out, only to put it in their livewell and make sandwiches out of it. The anonymity of Lake X reports bother people, understandably, but the people they bother seem to be naive in certain areas. Not everyone is out here for sport or the search of their personal best. Not everyone does this as a hobby or pastime. I've seen plenty of fish taken out of spots that brought tears to my eyes.. most notably this year. Opening day, an old man who lives on one of my favorite, if not my numero uno lake, had a 5 gallon bucket full of fish at the dock. Nothing was of legal size; some bluegill, crappie, LMB, but the one that hurt the most was a 12" SMB. Smallmouth bass are hands down my favorite fish to hook. I've seen the very small but healthy population of SMB in that lake prosper over the past 5 years, and catching one at that lake automatically makes my trip out there worth the hour trek. I don't know how many SMB are in that lake, but suppose there are only 100.. that man just took 1% of the lakes population. For that reason alone I am always hesitant when I have written any reports. I'm not going to lie about anything, but never will I share 100% of my info with you. I'll temper what I want you to know.

If you're worth your weight in tackle, Lake X reports shouldn't bother you. Just spend the 5 minutes reading about how great the action was for your fellow fisherman, be happy for them, and continue to hone your craft using any information you can from the post. It's all about presentation, understanding the lakes terrain, the habits and cyclical nature of the fish and knowing when and where to be. This is true for all lakes, not just Lake X. Simply because you know the name of the lake where someone caught a 5 lb LMB doesn't mean you will have the same success. There are large fish everywhere - use what you know and go out there and catch them.

What Sea Dog is saying is not to find your "secret spot". I agree cranky, it sucks to watch some jack ass empty a small, beautiful, once full of fish lake while you watch it happen. Happened to a wildlife management lake in mass where we came from, a small group of non legals used to fill 3-4 buckets everyday for weeks, every fish they caught went into the bucket. Soon, there was nothing left for us normal fishermen and women. But don't post if you need to hide, keep your secrets to yourself is what he's saying I guess. Too much on this topic already.

whats a normal fisherman?

How do you know they were illegals?

We're they illegal to the country; were they fishing without a license?

Its annoying when people say normal fishermna OR people like us.

I am sure their are plenty of anglers with license's on CT fishing forums who keep illegal fish / keep more then posted.

Lake X where they are born big....

Agreed..............i dont have much more to say about it except im going to fish lake X with baits A, B and C. Rolling Eyes

In all seriousness the site is open to these "debates". A thread like this has only one destiny and thats, we will get differant opioions. I can see both sides to the lake X thing. I see guys want to learn from others reports and have better chances at catching more fish. In my opinion these are the guys that are probably newer to fishing and bass fishing in general. Thye have limited access to open water or maybe just cant seem to put it together and are searching better results. On the other hand the lake X reports cater to the guys that have put in there own time and hardwork to figure out lake X and catch quality fish. They may dish out what the fish were caught on.......but certainly keep the lakes name under there hats. In my situation I found this site LONG after i started bass fishing so i wasnt coming here for tips. I wanted to do some T's and meet some new people and stay in touch with some people i new. Time spent on the water if your catching or not should be used as a lesson and learn from it. Like anything else if your not doing it your not going to get any better at it. I cant stress enough to get out there and do what works for you.

Hi hoppy,

You said pretty much exactly what I've been saying over and over.

Fishing depends upon what knowledge a fisherman has learned and continues to learn, the gear he uses, the techniques applied, and some good old fashion Luck!

Took me over 2 years to learn all I could and hone my skills at fishing for my favorite fish and still learning more about!
I find them a real challenge to catch on micro-light gear and fantastic to eat.
I don't post "ANY" reports "EVER" about my fishing for them -> "My little secret".
PLUS ....I have no desire to "Tease" others with "Lake X type reports" about my successes or failures!

On the other hand -> If anyone has the notion to try for them -> I'm happy to inform them how I do it ..... if asked privately !
Everyone knows where I fish all summer -> That's no big secret -> But as to the exact spots where I fish there -> NO!

I put my time in and worked hard to find my favorite hot spots -> and I'm not particularly afraid that anyone will ever fish them out!
I may tell or show you how I fish -> But exactly where? -> "Nope, your on your own Exclamation " Thumbs Up

The fish I target, .... "Swim deep, Hard to find, Hard to hook, Hard to reel in, Hard to land, and you need Tons and Tons of Patients to fish for them."

That's why I'm addicted to them! ..... a real Fun Challenge !!!!!!!
Some days I catch my limit and other days I get shunked -> That's the way it goes.

One of these days I hope to get out west where they catch and measure them in pounds vs here in inches.
Unbelivable fighters and fantastic eating ! Very Happy

Hey PHS, you'd have to know where I came from to know "illegals". Has nothing to do with a fishing license.
