That thing must have been nice after a few hours in the Texas sun.

"Whether Brent Crawford has captured the world's largest alligator gar will never be known -- his scale bottomed out emphatically at 300 pounds and he filleted the prehistoric-looking fish after attempting to obtain its weight."

With what a threatened species they are I cannot but feel sad. I am hoping to hit Texas in July and give it a shot, but by rod. We will see. My brother in law and I are trying to set it up. It's a bit steep and probably out of our pricerange.

Threatened? Really? I thought they were pretty abundant in that part of the country.

The population actually is declining surprisingly. I know some states have put more of a strict creel limit on them. In some areas down south they are rarely seen, when back 20 years ago they were seen much more. I have a few friends that live down there, the problem is there's a ton of overfishing.
