Seeing what time the local high tide was today, I decided to hit Twin Brooks Park.

First spot I hit, starting around 1:45pm, was the island at the main pond. Lures I played around with included 4cm silver shad Jointed Shad Rap, 7cm bleeding pearl Original Floater, 7cm perch Original Floater, 8cm original pearl shad Flat Rap, 7cm bluegill Shallow Shad Rap, and 7cm firetiger Clackin Minnow. All saw no action.

I then decided to tie on a baby bass Pop R and casted it into the small cove right near the island. That's where I had a pickerel come shooting out while working the Pop R. Missed out on it during the explosion.

I then started to think to myself, seeing it's overcast, cool, hardly any wind, and moist air, the topwater bite must be on.

After no more hits with the Pop R I switched over to a baby bass Tiny Torpedo. Had bluegills chasing it and pecking at the tail.

Moved to the southern end of the pond with the gazebo and decided to stick with the Pop R and Tiny Torpedo. Lost 1 largemouth on the jump and landed 1 with the Tiny Torpedo. The bass I lost looked to be more than a pound. The bass I caught was a cookie cutter.

Headed to the opposite end of that pond with the Pop R on and caught a 1 pound largemouth. Also had a pickerel come shooting out for it but missed it.

Then went to the upper part of another pond and worked along the edge of trees. Lost 1 with the Tiny Torpedo and caught 1 with it. Both were around a pound.

Nothing was interested farther down that pond so I headed over to the main cove of the main pond. Had bluegills chasing the Tiny Torpedo and missed out on a bass. Nothing was interested at the beach.

Next stop was the cove at the larger pond where 2 brooks feed in. Nothing hit the Pop R and Tiny Torpedo. Also tried throwing the Jointed Shad Rap there but no luck.

Headed farther down to the opposite end of that pond. Caught a bass around a pound with the Pop R. Bluegills were pecking at the tail of the Tiny Torpedo.

Last stop was the hidden pond. Caught a bass around a pound there with the Pop R.

Once I made that last stop, I saw it was 6:28pm, so I decided to give Beardsley Park and Bunnells Pond a try.

Not much topwater areas to cover at the upper part of Beardsley Park now that it's gotten very weedy. Caught a dinky bluegill with the Tiny Torpedo at my crappie spot.

Nothing else at Bunnells Pond so I hit the road around 7:30pm.

Once the sun started coming out from the clouds, it got warmer, and the wind picked up, the bite slowed down.

The smaller ponds and shallower areas I hit at Twin Brooks Park were like glass which is where the bass were more interested in the topwater. The Tiny Torpedo I worked at a slow-medium retrieve. The retrieve for the Pop R was giving it a light jerk every second or second and a half. I learned that when the surface of the water is mostly to totally calm, be more quiet with topwaters.

Nice report not a bad days of fishin. Do you go to Bunnells Pond often? Anything good over there? Also what about Beardsley Park? I live near both, but haven't fished there ever.

Was working at park city ford in bridgeport today and really wanted to try my luck at bunnells during my lunch break but didn't end up doing it.

Guys,

Bunnells Pond is a hit or miss place with all the pressure and poaching it gets. Opens on Opening day and ends November 30. Once the water temps rise, it gets very very weedy. Fish you can catch include LMB, BG, YP, BB, CC, CA, CB, CP, AE, white sucker, pumpkinseed, rock bass, and redbreast.

Bunnells Pond was drained about 10 years ago which did a lot to the fish population and the sizes that used to be in there.

The line between the Pequonnock and Bunnells Pond is a point that sticks out straight towards a pipe coming from the Connector. To your left is Bunnells Pond and to your right is the Pequonnock River. The Pequonnock River is opened until the last day of February which is trout season.

Every 2 to 4 years you get a great crappie bite. Sometimes for the next 1 to 3 years the crappie bite can slow down.

River herring make their way through Bunnells Pond and the rest of Beardsley Park for spawning.

The city Parks & Rec are just like the state when it comes to needing a park pass from Memorial Day til Labor Day, even though your taxes are going towards the trout and catfish the state puts in there.
