Hi,
Well I've had a few of you bust my chops about "Lake X" posts.
So lets see what value, if any, they have:
Here are "my personal observations and opinions"
Does this forum, 1st and foremost, exsist here to help and share fishing information with its members -> YES!
Do "Lake X" reports provide any real help to anyone? -> NO!
Do "Lake X" reports provide any real useable information to anyone? -> NO!
Do "Lake X" reports , in any way, make you become a better fisherman? -> NO!
Is there is a way that any "Lake X" reports be proved to be True? -> NO!
Are "Lake X" reports just someone looking to brag about a fish they caught with nothing to back-up their report with -> In my opinion I'd say that's a Big YES!
Oh! And can anyone here tell what post is a "Lake X" report until they open and read it? ...... I sure can't -> but some here seem to have this unique power to do exactly that -> AMAZING!
So? I pose this question to all:
What real ....and I mean "REAL VALUE" do you get out of a "Lake X" report someone posts
To me they are nothing more then a total waste of time and space to post ...or to use one word ....WORTHLESS
Oh FYI: Remember! ...This forum, or any forum, exsists for information to be shared as well as to express personal "civil" opinions.
If other than "civil" -> Keep it on the PM side of a forum!
This should be interesting to see who comes back with honest mature logical replys!
Best regards,

Here's some good info I can share on this site. No one on here really gives a horses @$$ what your opinion is. You cause more drama in peoples threads than a high school couple. |

Hi,
Hmmmm?
Not surprised that the 1st reply is made by one of the more vocal "rush in and shoot before they think" hotheads!
My posts seem to always get a lot of views and everyone here has the option to by-pass any post that has my name on it.
As requested, I'd really would like to hear more mature opinions on the subject!

Who cares if someone gives you the exact location of where they are fishing.
A lake X report is better than no report at all. I am more curious of what people are catching than where and how. I also enjoy the pictures a lot of guys post in these Lake X reports of huge fish. I wouldn't post the location of a lake if I was catching multiple lunkers every trip out. This is an open forum and anyone on a PC can read your post and show up and pound the crap out of a honey hole.
Seadog, I know you were all fired up about the tournament I was going to have at West Hill because that is a lake you like to fish and started posting that it was a cold water lake with no bass population...etc. When everyone that has fished West Hill knows that lake has the potential for a State record largemouth.
You do seem to rub a lot of people the wrong way on here with some of your post. I know a few people have stopped posting due to your comments. _________________

Hi chuck,
Well I have never asked anyone "ever" the exact location of where they caught a fish.
I have asked as to what body of water they fished -> such as Highland Lake, Colebrook Res., Zoar, Lilly, East Twin and Yes! even West Hill.
That's a lot of water territory on each lake for anyone to cover.
If asked -> I have no problem telling which lake I caught a fish in but not the exact spot.
If you get a kick out of posted pictures of fish from a "Lake X" report -> Thats fine with me -> Least you answered my question with a civil honest opinion of your own! -> That's all I was asking for!
A civil exchange of opinions!
Yes! I am exclusively fishing West Hill and do so all summer -> That's no big secret!
Where exactly? ...No! -> I have my favorite spots (or Honey Holes as you tend to call them) which I don't revel unless your actually all so fired-up to know and follow me out on the water!
As for "Honey Holes?" -> What with todays boats, fishing gear, and especially electronics there really aren't any public waters that haven't been scoured end to end ....and fish also do move around according the time of year and what natural activities (Spawning) they are doing.
No big secret that bass fishermen will fish bedding areas, weeds, drop-offs, etc. which I did for years.
Bass just don't interest me any more! -> I've moved on to micro-light fishing and the challenge of a very hard to find, hard fighting, and very finicky fish that gives me a lot of enjoyment to catch. My personal preference!
In my opinion, the real "Honey Holes" are private waters that haven't been pounded to death by regiments of fishermen.
These days it is a matter of what knowledge a fisheman has learned about the fish he is targeting, the type and style of gear he plans to use, the techniques applied, plus some plain old Luck!
And that is why this forum exsists -> to share and pass on such information and hopefully make us all better fishermen.
That is information of "Real Value"
Best regards,

I personally can care less about certain spots as well, just for the simple fact that I respect if people want to share the information or not. I can understand how it can irritate some people, but there's way too many lurkers on this website to be revealing too many spots. If I had a specific spot or even place I wouldn't even share it because if I went there the next day there would be probably 10 people trying to fish my hot spot. In my opinion I'm curious to know what it biting and maybe even what was used...not necessarily where. I know some people are hesitant to share their secrets of what they use, it's good to know though what's working. The other piece to that is that it's not always about what you use - its how you use it. Anyways that's just my 2 cents, just playing devils advocate. Again I respect everyone's opinion and if no one wants to share certain things I completely respect that. _________________ Steve |

Well i'm relatively new here, but i really enjoy reports with some pictures. It's nice to see what people are catching, especially the sizable ones. I don't take it as a "oh oh look at me and my fish!" type post, but more of a sharing experience and hopefully a learning one as well. I respect if people don't want to share lure/bait info, where exactly they caught it, but i think calling the place "Lake X' is a little overboard, nor have i really seen that on here. I.E. someone can make a report they went to Highland Lake one day, but by no means do they need to give their spots. _________________ A bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work |

As a new fisherman i'm always looking for a new spot to try, and lake x reports are frustrating because they offer no help in that regard. However, if the person is sharing info about the baits and retrieves they used then a lot of the time i find that info even more helpful. If a post contains neither location nor bait info, then it just kinda feels like bragging.
But hey, i like looking at the pics of fish people got so it's not a total waste, it just makes me think what is the point. If everyone could post reports like PECo this forum would be a beautiful place, but thats asking a bit much (i love your reports peco, they have helped me immensely).
Personally, i dont really understand why someone would hide what lake they are using, but it doesnt really bother me unless they're also keeping their techniques secret. We're all here to help eachother, so lets do that. |

Generally people who make Lake X reports catch the fish from either illegal ponds like drinking water resivors, or private ponds. I think it's pretty pathetic that someone needs to brag about a big bass that came from a non-public pond. That's the challenge of fishing a public pond. The biggest baddest bass
in the lake has seen every lure ever made, catching a trophy from a public pond makes it that much more rewarding when you do hook up with one and makes you a better angler. I had the opportunity to fish some private ponds where you throw out a bare jig and get bit, then you try the same thing at Highland, Winchester (LOL) or some other popular lake you get nothing! That's why I stick to the public ponds for the challenge and then the true braggin rights when you land a giant. And for everyone who says West Hill has no huge bass in it stop in the little store at the launch, there's a picture of a huge bass some guy caught at West Hill in 2009! _________________ http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o21/PickerelPete/IfeH-r.gif |

Just so you know Sea Dog I deleted your private message before even opening it. When you become half a respectable fisherman I might give you the time of day to read what you have to say.
I suggest the others just hit the back button on their browser and wish they didn't waste time out of their life reading your garbage. |

Hi Ryan,
FYI: A while back, we came to a mutual agreement, via PM's, not to be disrespectful to each other on the public side of the forum.
You have "broken your word" with an offensive public post at me on an issue that didn't even mention you.
I responded to you with a PM, which you did not read and deleted.
I "steadfastly kept to my word" and was seriously shocked by your offensive post at me.
Respect? .....Think about what you did by breaking your word
I would never do that to you, as it would be the most dishonorable thing I could ever do to a fellow Vet.
I really, truly, and honestly am sad about this! ...... giving ones word and keeping it, to another, is the highest matter of true respect I know of.

Hey SD, while I may not agree with you on every post, here I do. It hurts nothing to post where you are in the report, don't be such a selfish fisherman. These forums are here for us all to "share" from, not hide crap. As for Phils posts, they really so share the experience of fishing and thanks to him for it. Ryan, that post was wayyyyyy outta line. |
