Anyone ever thought about a swimbait section? Just curious how many people are throwing the big baits in CT. |

Honestly I'm having some trouble keeping all the bait terminology clear. What's the difference between a jerk, swim, stick, and crank. Can anyone point out a good glossary maybe? I might be using one swim bait that i got. Its plastic with like 3 or 4 sections, glowing holographic eyes, and 1 treble hook in the middle. It looks awesome in the water, but i havent managed a single strike on any type of retrieve. If this is the type of bait you're talking about, what kind of retreive would you recommend. |

I throw both hollow belly and split belly swimbaits rigged with the screw swim bait hooks. However, if weeds aren't an issue its always a good idea to rig up a trailer treble hook. I have gotten a few hits in smaller ponds on them but they work best in those bigger bodys of water. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

I am mostly talking about large swimbaits 6-10" stuff. I have had a lot of luck with Mattlures stuff, 3:16 stuff, and huddlestons. OH yeah and there is a guy in mass making swimbaits Realprey swimbaits, he makes some great stuff too. |

Yeah basstrix 6 inchers kick ass...thought they used to have 7 inchers but I just checked and they aren't any...however the good colors in basstrix are always on back order. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

THose are a paddle tail type swimbait aren't they? If you like those you should check out the 3:16 rising son, also the Mattlures tourney series are good. Do you fish any hard baits? |

OH I didn't only mean hard baits I was talking about both. Huddlestons are another good soft bait. And lately I have been doing well with Realprey's alewife and golden shiner. I do like to fish hard baits though, mostly 3:16, Mattlures, and 22nd century stuff. I just got a triple trout and a Nezuma rat that I like alot, but probably my go to hard bait is a 3:16 wake jr or the mattlures hardgill floater. I can't believe no one else it throwing this kind of stuff. |

A lot of swimbait rod manufacturers haven't even started expanding their retail sales into the northeast. I suspect it makes a lot more sense for them to focus their marketing in states with Florida strain bass. When I visited California last year, I was blown away by the selection of huge baits and upsized gear...it's a whole different game - there, you'll have no problem whatsoever finding rods capable of throwing a 4oz swimbait. Here, you'll probably have to settle for a saltwater rod if you don't want to buy online.
Here's what I'm throwing:

My Goal this year is to stick a fish on this. I have missed two so far not sure they were short strikes or just too small to take the bait. I am thinking anything over three pounds will eat this though, as I have caught twelve inch fish on eight inch baits. |

Just caught a 19 inch fatty on a 5 inch paddle tale minutes ago. My scale is busted but I was bigger than the normal 19 incher for sure. Not having a person to photograph my fish for me sink too. I got a decent self pic but it didn't do its justice. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

2 different kinds of swimbaits, segmented hard body swimbaits and the hollow or split belly swimbaits soft plastics, both work well, the hard plastics can be fished a variety of different ways, burned, slow retrieve, twitched, but the soft plastics you pretty much use it like a spinnerbait, just cast it out and give it a med-slow retrieve, but be creative because i have done good stalling the soft plastics and bouncing them off the bottom too! |
