The Naugatuck River from Torrington all the way to it's convergence with the Housy in the South is simply and without question one of the best Smallie fisheries in CT. I have fished it now for 6 years straight and each year we catch more and more smallmouth bass. Landed 9 tonight with my son in Derby by Pershing Drive. Nothing big, but if you like smallmouth, I recommend it. |

I just read the DEP report which is a joke, it reports nothing of the smallmouth action on the Naugy. That's probably why I find the fishing there so good. No one knows about it. |

I ride my bike along the Derby walk way every night. The other day they were jumping everywhere in the naugy. Mad I didn't have a rod with me. Right behind BJ's seems to be loaded. |

We use nothing but spinners.......all colors. It's a shallow river and a nice bi spinner finds a perfect depth for the fish. River smallies feed (and fight) much differently than lake smallies. |

Do you think those jumps down in derby where smallies? I'm dying to do some smallie fishing and I live close by to where it meets the housy. Btw do you use any inline spinners for smallies, I'm a huge fan of inline spinners for many freshwater species. Thanks for the info! |

I checked this spot out today but was having a lot of trouble with snags until I switched to a tiny torpedo top water. Got 2 smallies with it, both under a pound but it was still fun.
I saw some HUGE fish swimming around here, but the visibility was terrible and they all disappeared when I spotted them. Would a stripper make it that far up the river? They were at least 2-3 feet long these damn fish.
Be careful though. I wasn't there long when all the sudden I turn around and there's a pissed off copperhead in attack position hissing at me. I got the F out of there when I saw that. Good thing I did too, check out my PB post. |

Those fish were probably carp.
A STRIPER wouldn't make it past the first dam, but a STRIPPER could hop right in the water with her man. |

I was there last week. I think some schoolies went up the Naugy chasing shad. There were some huge splashes. There are some really big carp in there. When your up on the walk way they look like logs in the water. Every time I see them jumping the Vultures aren't far behind. Usually sitting on the flood outposts. Thats a good sign there are bait fish near by. |

Stripers go all the way up yo the dam in Seymour but Im betting uou ate seeing suckers or carp there. The stripers have for the most part left those partz of the river as the herring for the most part left which was their primary food while the herring were up there mating. _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

The naugy is loaded with smallies LOADED but all small about as small as the stocked trout are. They recently stocked the naugy with alewives. You might be seeing them in there as well. |

Right down the bank from the walkway. I got the first smallie under the brisge and the other (and the copperhead) about 20 yards south of there. |

thanks, that's good to know, I appreciate it. Just can't wait to do some smallmouth fishing, I've been looking up some spots. I may try the bulls bridge bma, but it's so far from me so it's nice to hear of a good spot much closer. |
