My dad and I hit the outgoing at Penfield Reef Thursday evening. I was the first to get out there and couldn't believe how flat, wide, and rocky the Reef has gotten! A few others were out there already and were reporting an occasional taylor and what looked like stripers making small rises.

2 lures I threw out there included that 13cm purple ghost Max Rap and a 10cm chrome Flat Rap. My dad tried throwing a topwater and also went slow with a Mambo Minnow. Both of us had not even a hit.

Around 7:45pm a thunderstorm was in progress over eastern areas of Bridgeport with a few drizzles on the Reef. Once we saw lightning in the storm we headed in.

Fished the reef from about 745 to 9 and caught 2 sea robins and a small blue. I also had a schoolie follow me in.

Were you fishing the deeper west side or the shallow east side Fishingkid? Yesterday my dad and I hit both sides but nothing. Last year in mid June I was into the taylors and a few fluke on the east side while they were feeding heavily on silversides and sand eels.

I had the robins and the almost caught schoolie on the west side and the blue on the east. I remember last year's small blue run, too.

I almost had the schoolie on a krockodile spoon and caught the blue off a bomber.

Earlier this evening I caught 2 small blues at the reef using a popper. I also missed 2 other strikes.

Are they just grabbing the very tail end or is it wire leader time?

The two I caught were hooked on the rear treble each time.

Are they into the fast paced aggressive retrieve or an average steady stop and go?

I guess I was just doing an average retrieve speed. Maybe if I slowed it down a little, I would've caught the other two hits I had with the popper.
