I picked up my 1st kayak last week (used) and had never even sat in one before let alone fished out of one. Figuring I'd ask someone with a bit of experience I contacted PECo for some advice and tips for a beginner. He was extremely helpful, quick to respond to my PM's and only asked that I post a report.

I made 2 quick trips...

The 1st (yesterday) was to the small pond (silent waters?) across from SIS. It is out of the way so when I tipped over no one would see Very Happy

. Not only did I managed to stay upright but actually caught a few fish as well. I figured there were plenty of bluegill in there but found a long skinny LM too.

For trip 2 (today) I figured I was OK with a little bigger body of water so I hit Toby's Pond in Seymour. I managed about 6 bluegill and 3 small LM in about 2 hrs. There was much more wind today and without question there is a learning curve to fishing from a kayak but it is very enjoyable.

Not much of a report but a deal is a deal. Thanks again for all the help Phil!

Very nice, nothing beats being on the water, instead of next to it. Phil is very helpful and knowledgeable. Keep it up

I've never heard of anyone fish that pond across from SIS and I'm from shelton! Do you usually fish there for bass? If so; how does it usually produce for you?

I heard there are some bass in pine lake near the high school on rt 108, but never got around to trying it. Have you ever been?

A friend of mine fished it with success. That is another one I want to try when I have some free time. I think someone posted about it on here last week.

Alex,

I found out from a lady from the City of Shelton that you are allowed to launch canoes and yaks into Nell's Rock and Pine Lake. Buddy and I launched at Nell's Rock 2 Fridays ago, which made a big difference in fishing.

I heard that, I also heard they stocked some Atlantic salmon in there. I've only fished it from shore and don't usually have much luck. That place isn't very high on my list of local spots but a couple buddies of mine have canoes, so I may try fishing it from one. I can imagine it would be much better for trout anyways because there is a current in the middle of the pond that trout hang out and feed just outside of it and it's hard to reach from the shore.
