Went out with my Boss on his 20' Triton yesterday. We launched from Rocky Hill Ferry and hit the water at about 12:30. He knows the river like the back of his hand so we went through all his spots.
We started hitting a shoreline with wacky senko's and were pulling up small - medium size smallmouths, about 5 of them. We were just wrapping up at the spot when my boss gets a nice hit on his wacky senko. When he gets the fish to the boat we see to our surpise a pike! Considering he was using a light set up with about 8 lb fluoro, we were surprised the toothy predator didnt cut the line. This one was about about 30"
From there we headed off to where the Mattabesset comes in. There was some guys in a tournament in there who seemed to be doing alright. We fished the weeds and shore there, catching 4 pickerel (14-22"), 3 more pike (16-25"), and a few smallmouths.
Till dinner we fished a few more spots using wacky senko set ups, and pulled in 10 or so smallmouths, 2 of them being a nice healthy size (2-3 lbs). From there we grabbed dinner at the restaraunt there at harbor park, conveniently able to pull the boat right up.
After we decided to hit a few more spots, targeting pike. The tide was up and we were throwing spinner baits. As i was reeling mine in, WHACK. After a 10 or so minute fight, i got my personal best pike. It was ~ 36/37" and 12-13 lbs.
After that we fished a little more, and headed back to the ramp. Overall a great day on the water! _________________ A bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work |

Nice work, congrats on the PB! Did they charge you to launch your boat at the RH ferry? I usually launch there, but I took a break because the town told me beginning memorial day they'd charge me 30.00 since I'm a non-resident...which is ridiculous. Just wondering if it's being enforced, thanks! _________________ Steve |

They did! There was 2 people at the entrance that would charge you as you came in. I met my boss there in my car and didn't have to pay to park, it's just if you launch your boat there. When we got on the boat he told me it was 30 bucks to launch, seems a bit pricey. _________________ A bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work |

Congrats on the pike!! Sounds like a fine day out fishin'. 30 bucks to launch is total bullsh*t. How are ya supposed to do that, along with 50 in fuel every time you want to go out? I'm dying to get towed in my canoe by a pike like that, but my first one of any size would do. Care to recommend a spot I could slide my boat in and target pike? I'm just south of Middletown not far from the state ramp at Salmon Cove. _________________ Dave..... I can be a pain in the bass. |

I'm pretty sure seaboard marina charges 10$ to use their launch, I could be wrong tho, call them first, or try calling petzolds marina and ask what they will charge you Nice fishes guys, make sure to take extra time and care in reviving the pike this time of year, that water is awfully warm and if they give it their all in the fight they WILL be spent and probably die if you dont revive them for a long time! -Dan |

Dan - I called the other day. It's 15 bucks, much more reasonable than RH! (Seaboard) _________________ Steve |

When it got on the boat it really didnt flop much so you could tell how spent it was. We took our time reviving it to make sure it was doing A-OK.
As far as the fish, it was caught in Cromwell cove. Don't think thats a groundbreaking new spot haha. _________________ A bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work |
