Seymour Quarry on the Beacon Falls Line, just next to the Naugatuck River. We haven't caught anything huge there yet but we have caught about 50 of 1.5 to 2 lb LMB so far this year. Be weary of copperheads which are prevalent at this location.[/img] |

I fish there every now and then. I've never made it all the way back but there are a lot of small bass in there. It's a fun place to fish. Especially for small ones new to fishing.
Your right about the snakes in there. |

I agree Wanna. Like I said we've caught nothing big there, but plenty of action for sure. |

I've stopped there a couple of times but like you said, only got 1-2lb'rs out of it. I did see a bunch of snakes swimming around through the water, but they looked to be northern water snakes, not copperheads. I found this as a really good guide to pick out what snake is what http://www.ct.gov/dep/lib/dep/wildlife/pdf_files/nongame/snkwebview.pdf
I never got much further than the parking area when I fished it. This is Toby's Park, right? |

Has anyone caught anything other than short bass there? I used to fish that a few years ago. Never got ANYTHING good. Biggest was maybe 1.5-2lbs. Lots of action but all small stuff. They seems to be in the back for the most part. I have paddled back there many times. I haven't gone there since it has become a park. I really wish they would do something with that place it could be a great spot. Smallmouth? I think there isn't a big food source in that place so thats why they are so small. |

xdan - You are thinking of Toby's park in Beacon FAlls. The quarry I am referring to is a little farther north behind the Bus Company. |

or there are too many bass. The younger ones are more agressive and less weary of artificial lures. They outcompete the larger bass for food and also get caught a lot more.
Its the same way at a local lake. Tons of bass but all around 1lb. There is plenty of habitat and forage but all I could seem to get were small ones.
I recently changed tactics and threw larger baits. Spinnerbaits, big cranks etc. The small ones will take a soft plastic 75% of their body size. They also attack a slow moving creature/worm in the water quickly, not giving a larger bass a chance to check it out. I managed to catch less but I got two much better quality fish out of the trip.
I read an interesting article about how the catch and release mentality of bass fishermen could actually be causing there to be less larger (and smarter) bass and overabundance of small agressive fish.
Ill see if I can dig it up....

Mike - If you are at Toby's.....go back over the bridge toward the center of Beacon Falls and take the first right. Follow this road (old Rte for about 1/2 mile until you see the Bus Company on your right. Pull in the Bus company lot and go all the way to the end of the lot. You will see the Quarry on your left.
Caution - There are Copperheads there also!!! |

I have fished and kayaked both. They basically have the same fish in both. I have parked at Sal Mangion's Construction and entered there. Its the last buiding before the rt8 bridge if you are driving towards seymour. |

There's copperheads everywhere, damn! I'm not afraid of snakes for the most part, but that one a foot away from me in attack position on the bank of the naugy was another story.
Thanks for the directions. It seems like anytime I'm down that way I just end up going to the Seymour Reservoirs instead. Bigger bass in those lakes. Today I got a 2.5 and a 3 lb'r out of #2. I'll have to keep this in mind though for those days I'm not up for the hike. |

Yes they are common water snakes, there are no copperheads in New England. Too many people put fear into everyone, there are very few poisonous snakes if any here. |
