Hit the CT River today for a few hours 7am-11am. Very cloudy..about 70 degrees, surface temp of water was about 72 degree with light wind. I fished with my heavy setup (50lb braid and 40lb fluro) with a "Chili Craw" Strike King 1.5 crankbait and a "Red Sexy Shad" in 2.5. Hit a 23" Pike with the 2.5 within the first 20 minutes. Fishing then got slow, I nailed a Bowfin with the Chili Craw a couple hours later. Man, that thing hit hard and was thrashing absolutely everywhere. It was the first Bowfin I ever caught...as I got it to the boat my buddy went to lip grip it and it shook off Mad ...The last hour I landed two Largemouths in less than a foot of water I would say...One of 13" and the other was 11". Everything caught and released today. I was actually hoping to catch some Crappie (fun to fight and great to eat), but no luck this week. Last week I nailed 3 Crappie and 2 Pike. Looks like the LMB are finally out and about though. Past month its been all Crappie, Pike, and Pickerel...

I couldn't believe the fight it put up. It was probably a little less than 2 feet but it was such a hard fight. If I didn't have thick braid and fluro it would have ripped right through it! I wouldn't mind catching one again Very Happy

Nice fish. Yeah, I want to catch a bowfin, too.

DirtyDawg10 (aka Derek) caught a 17 inch largemouth bass in Hamburg Cove, yesterday, that seemed light for its size. I think that it was a spent female, especially since the water temperature in the cove ranged from 67 degrees in the morning to 74 degrees in the afternoon.

Still am! I've concluded that the best way to catch bowfin is by targeting something else.
