I personally find the kayak way more convienant. Colburn who is a member here as well and I can use his 12 foot aluminum any day of the week and we haven't touched the thing in over a year.
Just throwing my opinion out there. And you can still hook up a trolling motor to your Yak!!! |
Good to know! I have a decent deal for a basshunter bass boat available right now, and it'll fit right in the back of my truck.
Might be a dumb question but could you put a trolling motor on any fishing kayak or does it need to be a special kind? I'm keeping my options open.
Would any of these yaks work with a trolling motor?

You can find kits for most kayaks. I spoke with the guy from bassyaks.com and he said he can make a custom kit for pretty much any kayak and the pricing is still fairly low. |

Take a look at the Field & Stream Eagle Run 12 at Dick's. It's a 12 footer and has plenty of leg room in the cockpit. I ended up choosing this over the Trophy 126 because of the extra space. On sale for $350 right now. |

They make pontoon attachments to assist with tipping. They're all kinds of stuff for yaks and all kinds of styles. Best bet it to talk with BassYak.com and he'll be able to set you in the right direction.
I bought three before I finally found a fit. I failed to "Try Before You Buy" and spent a lot of money in the learning process. |

The thing with me is i don't know anyone else personally that has one (a kayak) that i could go out with fishing. Sure i don't mind going alone, but i always enjoy fishing with someone else. At least with the basshunter it can fit two, but if that deal doesn't work out i also have been talking with someone about a 11 foot alluminum hull boat with a trolling motor that will cost less then a kayak would. Transportation isn't an issue since it'll fit in the back of the family truck. All the feedback is appreciated! _________________ A bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work |

Anyone have any thoughts on a tandem kayak? I was thinking about one for myself and my 11yo but maybe two singles would be better? At a local fishing rodeo my son caught his first trout, seven total the largest ones being 16" and 20" rainbows on a phoebe and soft lizard using 4lb test. Very exciting! |

The main disadvantage of a tandem kayak is that they are apparently rather difficult to paddle alone if you ever wanted to go out by yourself. This is per my parents who own one. They also said it takes a little bit of extra practice to get used to paddling in synch with the other person. _________________ PB's:
