I fished Batterson Park Pond from 1:15 pm to 4:30 pm. I'm still in pursuit of a tagged walleye, so I just trolled a couple of lures around. When I launched in The Other Woman, the sky was overcast and the air temperature was in the mid-60s. There was a light south wind that grew while I was on the water, but I really only felt it on the far north end of the pond near the dam. There was also an occasional light sprinkling of rain. I started trolling a Bluegill Rapala Shad Rap SR-7 and a Yellow Perch Rapala Shad Rap SR-5. As usual, the Yellow Perch got a cannibalistic yellow perch:
Then, of course, it got a rock bass:
After the Bluegill also got a rock bass, I swapped out the Yellow Perch for a Yellow Perch 3-5/8 inch Koppers LiveTarget Medium Dive crankbait. It was a while before the Bluegill got a walleye:
Then it got a white perch:
And a black crappie:
I wanted to troll a little closer to the weedline, so I swapped out the Yellow Perch Koppers LiveTarget for a Perch Rapala Shallow Shad Rap SSR-7. It was a good choice, because it got another walleye:
It also got a couple of yellow perch before I got off of the water. The two walleye were nice, but I gotta get me another keeper! _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter!

I forgot to mention that the water temperature was 66 degrees when I launched and dropped to almost 63 degrees by the time that I got off of the water. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Hey Phil,
You might already know...but I saw today that the only tagged fish that are at Batterson are Largemouth Bass (according to the DEP).
This is what I read..
Quote: | DEEP is again partnering with Cabela’s “Wanna Go Fishing For Millions” Contest. The contest runs from May 5 to July 8 and registration is free.
A total of 40 fish have been tagged in the following waters:
Batterson Park Pond - Coventry Lake - Highland Lake Mashapaug Lake - Pachaug Pond - Squantz Pond
Tagged fish include brown trout (Coventry Lake, Highland Lake, Mashapaug Lake), largemouth bass (Pachaug Pond, Batterson Park Pond, Squantz Pond), smallmouth bass (Pachaug Pond, Squantz Pond) and walleye (Squantz Pond).
All you need is a valid fishing license and be registered in the contest. Registration and contest rules are available at: www.cabela.com/fishformillions. To obtain your 2012 fishing license, visit www.ct.gov/deep/fishinglicense.
Remember - You can’t win if you don’t fish! |
And a heads up for anyone who is interested in the contest who is looking for tags.. _________________ Steve |

Are all the tags worth a prize? If so I'll go there over other places, Batterson has lunkers anyways! (i like free stuff) |

Yeah, Dan, my understanding is that each tag is worth at least a $50 Cabela's gift card. Now, go get 'em. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
