I've tried Panther Martins, Rooster tails, Kastermaster, and a few Mepps spinners and had very little luck so far this season. That's when I go to old reliable (Meal worms and trout worms). Anyone kill it with lures so far? _________________ Going for that trophy fish! |

i always fish with rooster tails before resorting to live bait or jigs. I normally do quite well with rooster tails. for stocked trout in lakes or holdover trout in lakes i like heavy/white/silver . for streams i use a light or meduim/brown/copper i use a swivel with the medium and heavy weighted ones but not with the lighter ones because they tend not to spin well. i often catch 40 or 50 fish before ever retying. crappie seem to love the rooster tails with green or chartreuse w gold spoons i use really light weight ones. cast them far let them sink and reel them slow. pike have also hit the large white ones but they are not my go to lure for pike. |

Thanks for the tips on the Rooster Tail. I've been looking for an answer as to when to use a swivel and when not to. I was using it on the smaller one I have and it wasn't spinning enough. I have to try tying it directly on like you said. _________________ Going for that trophy fish! |

I haven't used livebaits in a while. Usually right now its been crankbaits, all of my catches have been on 3'-5' diving Strike Kings or Rapalas. Sometimes the fish just can't resist them. _________________ Steve |

I put a few different husky jerks in my cabela's shopping cart a few hours ago. I hear nothing but great things about them. Thanks! _________________ Going for that trophy fish! |

Other Rapalas that have done the job for me this year so far are Original Floaters and Flat Raps. X-Raps won't hurt either.
1/16oz and 1/8oz Rooster Tails in orange, gold, brown, and copper patterns have been good to me in my trout fishing history. If it's cloudy and overcast out, silver, white, and grey with some black are good ones. |

i too am stocking up on these husky jerks i'm a novice to crankbait fishing. i do use "snap beans" often, the swim pattern on them is fantastic. though they are very small they seem to appeal to fish of all sizes. |

They are on sale at Cabelas.com for a limited time but you must order online. I ordered three of them so far. What are "snap beans"? I would google it but I'm sure I would find a million things. Sorry, I'm still not familiar with fishing lingo _________________ Going for that trophy fish! |
