Would i need to register a 15 foot plastic boat with an electric motor? What if i took the motor off and just paddled it?

Anything with a motor needs to be registered.

No motor=no registration

And until the end of May, you MUST ACTUALLY WEAR your PFD and not just have it in the boat. That's true of anyone in a non-powered watercraft. Here's a link to the 2012 Connecticut Boater's Guide on the DEEP's website:

http://www.ct.gov/dep/cwp/view.asp?A=2686&Q=322292

Read it! Wink

Just throwing my 2 cents in on this one...you also would need to have completed a safety boating course/PWC course and have your certificate (some call it boaters license) on board if you are using an electric motor.

Once you put some type of propelling device on, it changes up things and requirements big time. You might have already known this, just wanted to give a heads up Cool

Yeap, Steve, laziness is keeping me from getting a powered boat. I just don't want to take a Safe Boating course to get my Certificate. Confused Maybe I'll buy a boat and always have a guest captain along to pilot it. Hmmm. . . .

Anyway, here's a link to the certification requirements for operating a powered boat in Connecticut:

http://www.ct.gov/dep/lib/dep/boating/boating_guide/part1.pdf

A 60 day temporary Certificate is available if you just can't wait to get on the water. Very Happy

The PWC certification is simple. Take the one day 8-hour class and get it over with. Bring a good book. You'd have to be a moron to fail, as the answers are drilled into your head right before the test. No one has ever asked to see my certificate.
Phil, buy a boat...I'll be your permanent guest captain!

I think youd need to not have a job and be available at any second of the day or night being Phils captain. Im not sure if hes ever off the water yet!!! LOL

The only time that Kira's not on the water is when she's waiting for her trolling motor battery to recharge. Laughing

In case anyone that hasn't taken the class wants to, here's a list of classes in CT. I actually sat through it for a few days it's not too bad. I got "carded" for my PWC at Mashapaug Lake last year lol....couldn't believe it!
