It was my first time fishing down at the Vivert Road Boat launch. Me and my Friend got there around 2ish i would say and were fishing for a good 2 hours just hooking up with schoolies in the 15-20 Inch range when all of a sudden my pole started getting slammed. After a short fight i ended up reeling in my first ever catfish. Got him on a sandworm on a very cloudy day.

This was back in early april, possibly late march but i just figured how to upload now so i figured id throw it up there.

There's a submerged stone wall in the river to the north of Vibert Road. It extends halfway out into the river from the east bank. I think that the break in the current helps to hold fish on that bank. Here's a satellite photo of the area from Google Maps:

Peco do you know if you can fish on shore from the launch all the way up to the underwater stone wall? Is it private property I wonder if you start walking up river?

I'm not sure about the access. All of the maps I've seen of Linear Park, which is the public park in which the Vibert Road Boat Launch Ramp is located, show that the park has very little river frontage. However, I've seen many motor vehicles (i.e., trucks, quads and motorcycles) traveling up and down trails at the top of and along the bank, including all the way up to and past the submerged stone wall. The DEEP Regulations state, in pertinent part:
Quote:
26-112-39. Conduct of fishermen
The following regulations relating to fishing and the behavior and conduct of fishermen apply through the inland district.
(a) Entrance and exit from streams, lakes and ponds is restricted to rights-of-way designated by posters or when consent has been obtained from the landowner or his agent.
(b) (1) All fishermen shall keep within a reasonable distance of the banks of streams, lakes and ponds and shall not trespass on lawns or posted property. (2) On streams open to fishing under leases, permanent fishing easements or formal agreements, all fishermen shall keep within ten feet of the stream bank.

The Connecticut River is a "stream" that's definitely open to fishing, so I'd be comfortable if I stayed within 10 feet of the bank. But that's just a personal and not a professional opinion. Wink

By the way, are you part of the 860 family? Laughing

Check out the signs at Linear Park. They might describe the limits of the access.

Mike: We'll take a ride down there soon and scope it out, but like i said, fishin from shore is tough there. lotta snags, and after your phone call an hour ago, i know you HATE submerged structure when carp fishin, haha Laughing

Joe: I gotta take you out to target cats sometime. When they get big enough, they can put up a hell of a fight. Gotta spot thats given me some 12+ pounders. 30+ inches.

PeCo: If you can get out there when the river gets on the low side, launch a Vibert Rd and head directly across. You can see the little channel on the map. We went there some years ago, while the whole river seemed to be low enough to stand up, the water in the channel was cryatal clear, nice and deep, and stacked with so many fish it'd blowyour mind. Some monster bass, huge cats hangin on bottom, behemoth carp, and more suckers than you could shake a stick at.

It's been quite some time, so things may have changed, but worth takin a look if you're ever in that area. Some good structure down there you can see when the water is clear.

JustinSolak - I've been there when you could almost walk across the river. Unfortunately, I lost the photos I had of Fishface (aka Tim) pretending to be Jesus in the river when the hard drive on my old laptop crashed. Laughing

Carpfishin860 - I found a photo that I took of the sign in Linear Park. Unfortunately, the park's boundaries appear to run south (i.e., downriver) from the boat launch ramp. Plus, the park is closed from dusk to dawn:

I hadda buddy of mine turn into jesus one day years ago. While fishin a local pond, i was chunkin for catfish when i hit an eel that tipped the tape at near 3ft long. Well, as a reeled it past my buddy who was shin-deep in the water about 5ft from shore, he saw it comin right towards him. Thinkin it was a monsterous snake headed his was, he indeed turned into jesus and ran across water. Still funny just thinkin about it.

Aw that sucks. I always have my ear on the railroad listening for new potential carp spots on the river.
