Hi,
Well the last 3 days have been lousy for trout at West Hill.
Fishing was SLOW!
Today was beautiful -> wind was from the south, so the fish followed the feed and where all over the boat basin.
Fished from 3 PM to 6:30 PM.
Caught 5 fat Browns -> All 13" + and 10 smaller Browns and Brookies, released.
That made 15 fish I have and fillet them all -> Will brine them in my rum brine, over the next 24-36 hours, and then smoke them.
Yum!

I gotta learn how to smoke trout. I always throw em back cuz I haven't found any way to prep them that really does it for me. Baked Grilled fried are all good but smoked trout is just the real deal. I woulda had a nice lot today but I also am unclear of the new regs for Farmy this year so I played it safe. _________________ Never give up! |

Get yourself a smoker if you don't have one! I have 3 and I love making my meats and seafood on there. There's a bunch of ways to prep trout, if you want to keep it simple even just fileting them and lightly seasoning them works. It also depends on the wood you use to smoke them. Hickory has always been my favorite, especially for meats, but Apple is also good and even Mesquite. _________________ Steve |
