Headed down to the Pequonnock at Beardsley Park around 2:30pm Thursday. When I get there, I saw a good crowd.
First cast with that same 6cm brown trout Flat Rap and I had 3 trout follow! Pretty soon next cast fish on!
I was going to town with that Flat Rap as if they had just stocked it again. Other fishermen weren't doing too well with spinners, spoons, and worms. Small minnow plugs of certain colors and drifting corn or Power Bait were the tricks.
From about 2:45pm til 7pm, I caught a total of 18 trout!!!! I lost half as many and had plenty of hits and swipes!
Biggest of the day was a chubby 14" brown just over a pound. Also caught a 13" brookie just under a pound. Plenty of those thin 9" and 10" throw backs too.
Saw a guy throw a gold florescent red Japanese plug which he was hitting them on. Another fisherman wasn't getting anything on a rainbow trout Phoebe until he started drifting corn.
Instead of a steady retrieve with the Flat Rap, what had them going crazy was a slow-steady retrieve with constant light twitching just under the surface. If I saw them chasing it and trying to grab it, I'd slow the retrieve or pause for a second or 2 and give it some extra wiggling in front of the fish's face.
Went home with 3 bows, 1 brookie, and 1 brown.
One of my best trout days ever! |

It's nice to get something for the money you paid for your fishing license. I'm pretty much trouted-out for the year, though. It's definitely not my favorite fish to keep and eat. However, if I were to catch a 12 inch brookie, I'd probably give it a try. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Nicely done, way to beat the crowd.
It's been a while since I've fished for trout but your report is making me want to get back into it.
