man what a blast trout fishing can be. if you told me, back mid march, that 2 months later in the best fishng month of the year id be starting the month of May off with trout fishing, id have laughed. whats more amazing is how enjoyable i find it.

stuck with the small grubs, and hammered them from start to finish today. finding fish filled pools was the key, but im getting better at recognising what holds and doesnt hold fish now. found one run where it was all big fish, browns over 16 inches and strong in the current. i landed 4 to 19 inches, and lost about that many. in between were enough 9-14 inch fish for a day.

this fish ate the white grub, which they seemed to prefer over green today. 47 degrees outside; remember when it was spring back in march?

after about a dozen wonderful fighting fish in this large run, and having had it to myself for the better part of an hour, i ran into a man named Sean Bristol (i think), one of the members of the FRAA. he was a true gentleman who answered a lot of my questions and gave me a good deal of insight to the fishery. we chatted about the strains of fish, the different color markings i noticed between brown trout, and i offered the run to him and his friends, as i wanted to explore, but also to see if his freinds could land some trout. i had landed plenty, and didnt want to fish the place out. met back up with them an hour later after sucessfully exploring some water north of there, and they had landed a few good browns on the fly.

saw the stocking program dumping buckets of salmon fry into the river as well. many missed fish, and i learned a lot about where they ARENT as well.

go get em! at some point, id like to start heading out with a few of you on this website. next week would be great too meet up with some of you who frequent the area around the farmington.
