I hit up the CT River today and had the best day of the year so far. Found a good spot thats filled with some big fish and I caught almost every species today except a striper. Got on the water at about 10ish and fished till 3. Water was murky and in the 50's..light wind but nothing major. For pretty much 4 out of the 5 hours I fished today, I used my favorite crankbait and it was HOT. It was a 5 inch excalibur red crankbait.

Within the first hour I caught my best LMB of the day, 16 inches and a little over 3lbs.

Then after that I boated another 3 LMB, two were 15" and one was a little 8 incher. Soon after that I boated a crappie, then came a catfish! Yes, I caught this catfish on a crankbait while diving deep. This thing was a monster 13lbs and 24 inches...

Then soon after around 1ish I boated my PB Northern Pike! 33.5 inches and 8lbs...

Then a half hour later a nice size pickerel. It was 23 inches and fought like a champ!

Then a little sunny lol. Didnt think we needed to see a picture of that...The crankbait I was using was hot...then soon around 2ish I got a HUGE hit and my line snapped....it was definitely a pike and was probably close to if not bigger than the one I caught...Unfortunately I lost my favorite lure.

Fished for the last hour and didnt catch anything so I headed out. In all I boated 4 LMB, 1 Crappie, 1 NP, 1 Pickerel, 1 Sunny, and 1 Channel Cat. I lost a few hooksets on some Pickerel and Pike but I really had a blast and found a great spot on the River...

Thanks! Felt good to get out there finally this week. I had the whole week off but couldn't fish due to the crappy weather. Def worth the wait.

Dan - there was only 1 other boat there and they were only there for 30 minutes. We had the whole area to ourselves. I saw the chairs you guys had there on shore lol.

The Pike was by far the favorite catch of the day!

Didn't the catfish put up a better fight? I haven't caught any in Connecticut, yet, not even a bullhead.

The catfish put up a fight at first, but then I thought I lost it because it stopped fighting....then as I was reeling it started to fight again and went under the boat. I was very surprised to catch it on a crankbait - my assumption is that somehow I got within its personal space and pissed it off lol. The area I was fishing fluctuated from 3-5 feet. At high tide, it was 5 feet high. I was a bit surprised to pull huge fish out of shallow water but it happens!
