Been horrible this april so far.
im very dissapointed, but not really surprized at my results thus far at the big lake. its bee one cold front after then next, and the few days that it isnt a cold front, we're on a high pressure bluebird sky with 20-30 mph winds. never a good scenario.
water temps remain at 51 throughout the lower lake, and the water is on the dark side after all this rain.
found ZERO action on the hard jerkbait, a bite that was litterall every cast sometimes back during the warm spell in march. my lone bass, a measly 12 incher, came on some 5 foot deep rocks on a small grub.
terrible results this season, especially considering last year at this time i was landing 40-50 fish in a half day. i saw no other boats hooking up, and there were PLENTY of boats out there today.
hope this helps if you can pick a day where it isnt a hurricane.

We launched outa Squanz today! Hit 3 keepers and 2 small yellow perch. Nothing of size. There were a hundred trailers at Squanz. All from Mass, NJ, NY and Penn. Must be pre fishing a weekend tourney. Water there was 51 and those winds picked up hard about noon.
All were caught in coves in about 6/8 feet of water. _________________ Don't hold your farts in! They travel up your spine to your brain and thats where shitty ideas come from. |

Two drastically different winters, two drastically different springtime fishing scenarios. I love New England and all its peccadilloes.
Do you think the SMBs are just being nomads and roaming around still or is it high time for them to being staging somewhere? A few more ticks as far as water temperature goes and things should start to pop. |

I think that first warm spell screwed the fish up big time. _________________

It's gonna be a cold weekend but the middle of next week the temps are headed to the 70's.
These day to day weather fronts are confusing everything. Today we have 35 wind gusts. Tomorrow 5/10 gusts! _________________ Don't hold your farts in! They travel up your spine to your brain and thats where shitty ideas come from. |

We fished candlewood from 8-5! We had high hopes for a great day when we saw the sun in the am - BUT by 10 the sun was gone and the temps were at 53.7 and the DAMN WIND started up again! we never caught a fish - EXCEPT for when the water temps came up to (54.5) and the sun was partially out for about 2 hours in the shallows!
IT WAS BRUTAL - the only fish we got were in that 2 hour stretch and those were on the beds! - the smallmouths have spawned and are gone or some are on the beds and LRGS are just not anywhere near ready to come up UNTIL the water temps come up! hopefully next week when i am off for spring vacation fishing week! :( |

Was just at Candlewood today with Advent and I caught a 14inch 2lb LMB and he got a 18inch 4lb SMB all within 2 hours in the blistering winds and cold!
Picture doesnt do the fish justice, wish it was bigger and better quality! |

Yeah guys it was just little bluegills at first, but we persisted in those winds and from shore landed those 2 monsters. That 4lb. smallie had soo much fight and just took my lure, there was no hit it just went straight to a fight. |

Worked the Hershal HVBM Tourney yesterday at Candlewood Lake. A bag of 27.4 LB's won. There were several bags ranging form 18 to 25lbs. About 65 boats participated. Water Temps were 52/54. At noon the winds picked up to Hurricane Level and got worse towards the end of the day. The lunker caught was a 7.4 LB Large Mouth.
After the launch and with 4 hours of down time we snuck out and fished a little ourselves. We managed one smallie on a bed in 4 FOW and 6 trout. Lost many.
Most of the bass were taken off humps in 20FOW on the bottom. The trout were off the west lake side banks in 10/15 feet of water. Every trout caught had a shad already in it's gizzard. A 2 inch Black/Silver bottom Rappala was the slayer for the day.
All the trout averaged 12/16 inch. All were following schools of bait. _________________ Don't hold your farts in! They travel up your spine to your brain and thats where shitty ideas come from. |

Okay, so how do you fish "humps in 20FOW on the bottom"? _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
