Me and Advent and my parents went to Candlewood Lake at around 6pm, even with the 20mph winds and chills. We fished off shore for bout an hour and a half till we were chilled to the bone. Tried trout worms for a bit and got small bluegills. After a few minutes the breaks between winds gave us enough time to get a nice cast out so we switched up to some lures and started fan casting the area. About 3 casts in I was in a 14inch 2lb LMB that put up a fight in the cold water. After that we decided to keep going cause if one is going to bite more might follow. About 20mins after I got mine Advents rod doubles over and his reel starts crying! He starts screaming "Get the net!" I run past him and see his rod is in a upside down U shape and hes reeling for his life! By the time Im back to him Its thrashing just off shore and I cant even fit it into our little net! It was a 18inch 4lb Smallie! None the less it was a great yet chilly day!
People may say Candlewood is dead right now but, either we got lucky or I should beg to differ. |

Last night (4/30) I was out on a friends dock by Lattins Cove and fished everything in my arsinal and got nothing. Talked to a few boaters on there way in to the launch and they were all empty handed and freezing. Seems like Candlewood in general just wasnt working for people. As soon as this cold and rain passes and some 75 degree plus with sun comes alone the bass will start chomping on our lures! Can only Hope.. Better luck next time |

I've never gone to Candlewood without filling the boat with fish but I don't start there at least till the end of May. Usually a little too cold for me until then. There are definately some big fish in there. Lots of 4 and 5 pound bass and I've taken browns bigger than that. Rainbows, yellow perch. It's the only lake I fish. |
