Went out yesterday at sunset. Threw plastics (white and black, 9in and 5in) plugs (white), and top water (chug), with no luck. Fished mainly around the shoreline, looking for drop offs and structure - from wethersfield cove to hartford and back. I was out for about 3 hours. Either my new boat is bad luck or I still have to learn how to catch a fish not fishing from shore (this is my first boat). Either way I love being out.

I'm heading to fish down towards the salmon river this afternoon. Hope to post a pic soon!

Fished for 3 hours around haddam meadows state park and caught one decent size cat fish. I should've stayed with the sandworms cause a guy down the river from me got 2 thirty inchers fishing the flats. I ended up using mainly chunk bunker. At least I know they are out there.

You should try Hamburg Cove. A couple of the members on here have been having some luck, there. Even I have gotten some schoolies and I have no idea what I'm doing.

My favorite topwater lure is a Zara spook. The stripers go crazy over them. Have the 8 inch and 7 inch spooks. Rapala skitter pop works well also. I would try and find some boulders in the water somewhere. If u find them u will find the fish. Noticed they love sitting on side of the big rocks in the river. Waiting for herring coming by . Using a spook in those areas are key. Also If you can find a sand bar near the shore. They sit on the edge of those sandbars and wait for the herring do thy can stack them up on the sand bar. Good luck atleast your getting out fishing. Definitely making it out this weekend in the Windsor area. With the rain hopeful I can get to my spots I want to fish. Just hoping that river stays up for the next month or so .

Thanks for the replies. I'm already getting the itch to get back out and it's only Monday. Maybe the fiancé will let me get a week day fishing trip in. Doubt it.
