I went back to the pond this afternoon for a bit. I caught and released three more browns and a rainbow. All were caught with the black inline spinnerbait. I intended to take a photo of the rainbow, but it was able to shake itself free of the hook as I searched my pockets for my cellphone and, because I was standing at the water's edge on the beach, it was able to wriggle back into the the water. I could have kicked it back onto the shore, but I didn't intend to keep it, so I let it swim away.

BTW, I was right about the smaller browns. They definitely tasted better than the larger one. I'm stuffed, again. Very Happy

Nice set of fish Phil!

I like rainbow and brookie and not too fond of brown.

I love the fishy flavor of rainbow and the sweet flavor of brookie but don't like the flat flavor of brown.

big pickerel through the ice yum. mt washington brook trout yum. I also love bullhead. small bullhead from cold clean water are damned tasty once you get the cleaning process mastered its like a fish kebab. I salt and oil them and cook them medium heat on a hardwood grill. great cold too. last summer i caught a 3 lbs brown bullhead!! from a cold deep spring fed kettle hole. it was possibly the tastiest fresh water fish i have ever eaten. and the fillets i got off of it were almost as large as the ones i got off of a 7 lbs bass that same night. love brined smoked trout as well, i also use applewood. i developed an insanely good smoke recipe for catfish nuggets if anyone wants to give it a go pm me

I'm trying to find a source for some LIVE Trout to use as a prop for a photo shoot. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! The shoot is this Thursday afternoon June 28th 2012.

Try contacting Inland Fisheries at the DEEP. Otherwise, the Farmington River is full of them. Wink

there are two residents of my town with trout ponds in their yards. giant trout lots of them, also there is a salmon/brown trout hatchery. between these three sources you may be able to work something out. this is in Berlin/Kensington

Now that this has bounced back.......I'm surprised cats didnt make your list of good eatin Phil. Often ignored, but usually right under you all night long. So much fun to fish for. Fleshy....white....smokes really well....grills so nice. When all else fails....hit the bottom! Mango salsa anyone?

Unfortunately, Dave, catfish rarely hit artificial lures and I don't often chuck bait. I've caught only one in Connecticut. Plus, there are very few bodies of water in Connecticut from which I'd be comfortable eating a bottom dwelling fish. Wink

Hi Phil,

Pattaconk Lake in Chester is a very nice lake ....clean and quiet also!
Little if any houses around it.
Contour map on DEP web site.
DEP stocked it with Channel Catfish about 5 years back and also has a very good population of LMB.
I would fish it periodically, when I lived in East Hampton, mostly for early season trout.

Have you tried there yet?
