They are there but the masses are still downriver a way. The warmer the water gets the more they will spread out.

I've been told that the night bite has been good even in the upper river area. My work schedule doesn't allow me to tell you 1st hand but guys I fish with say they are doing OK.

Not to totally hijack, but a couple friends and I are heading down to the shore tomorrow for a full day trip. I have been hawking 3-4 different forums and countless threads trying to find places in the Housy area to camp out for the day.

Would someone PM me and engage in a non-public discussion about whether it is worth migrating from the old lyme area west and if so, where to concentrate our efforts once we have done so?

I don't want anyone to post it so publicly, but the information would really help make for a good day tomorrow!

We've been only going at night, from shore and nothing yet.

When they start going crazy though, GAME IS ON for sure but, you need to catch them while it last!!!

Derby isnt talked about much even when it turns on...

Last year around may was good, so even with the warm temps I wouldnt be too surprised if it didnt pick up until then.

I live right up the road from the Derby dam and when I drove by yesterday afternoon the lot was FULL. Quite a few plates from out of state too, mostly RI and MA, I think it's one of those spots that produces pretty damn good but people keep in on the down low.

Its no secret, if it was the lot wouldnt be full! LOL. When it gets hot its elbow to elbow like a trout pond on opening day with lines crossed every 10 seconds but at night it gets way worse with fist fights and the such.

Seemed to be alot of shore and boat anglers today as I crossed Rt8 on my way home from work! The Hog season ( MMA Slug Fest) usually starts two weeks prior to and after Mothers Day!

Had a boater complain of being threaten with being shot last year from a shore angler last year! Should be an interesting season this year!

But they are starting to line the shore! It only gets better from here! Especially from the Top Water Reports coming from SIK.....

Well it really blows when we are fishing fro shore and a boater who has access to the whole river comes over and fishes the few spots that we can and also burn through it with the outboard going. One day I felt like throwing on a 5 ouncer and do some target casting!

The river is pretty big and more than enough room! If your fishing under Rte 8 your in the wrong spot. The water is barely deep enough for a Largie! Never mind a Striper! (Tide Pending) Although if you hit the tide right you may get lucky.

I seriously have to laugh when I see dudes fishing left of the bridge! It's only a foot deep at a casts throw! (I did see a bass pulled out that laid across a Ford F150) Right of the bridge there is a hole they hold in till the tide rises. The Shelton side is the deep channel side! I'll give up the secrets of the river!

Your better off going to the point of O'Sullivans Island in chest waders or below the dam! On the Shelton Side! Either side at High Tide but only Derby if the power plant is spilling water and the dam is flowing.

When I was on Batterson, today, there was a carp fisherman with two lines in the water on the northwest shore. A guy in what looked like a brand new Bassyaks trolling motor-powered kayak drifted right over his lines just as he got a bite. I couldn't believe that the guy in the kayak couldn't give the carper some space. The guy said, "But I had a fish on the line!", as he pulled up a 10 inch yellow perch. Rolling Eyes Thankfully, the carper was able to get his carp to the shore. Very Happy
