I was curious to find out if the large mouth were as active this early in the year as they have been so often for me in the summer and fall. So, I made a late night run using the same rigs I normally use. 7" Berkley swimtails on a Gamakatsu headed with a bullet weight. The bite was strong at the normal hours from 10 - 2am and seemed to still be getting stronger as we decided to call it a night. All of the fish we found were under docks or structure with no exceptions. This was in a medium sized body of water in the Middletown area with more cold deep water than anything. |

Thats good to know, I have always had issues with spring time fishing, I am trying to change my techniques a little bit using more spinner baits.

Screw the spinnerbaits. Dark lizards on jig heads and wacky rigged senkos were killing them for me...some days poppers, buzzbaits, and fake frogs are working aswell. The wacky rigs really seem to work for me though. Also when it was a bit earlier in spring I used suspending husky jerks and Shad raps. _________________ You know it was a good day when your thumb is all scratched up. |

Spinnerbaits rule!! You may catch more smaller bass with a senko, but you'll hit larger more aggressive bass with a spinnerbait any time. From now until early July when the water wamrs up to much, the aggressive fish will hit a spinnerbait harder, and what a hit it is |

to true, topwater hits are insane, I use a smaller torpedo prop bait in perch color. It's a killer. |
