Our scouting has shown that the farm has plenty of legal birds to shoot as it is loaded with Jakes and 3 mature toms. My daughter has been watching them for weeks and made a decision to not shoot a Jake, she took one last year and wanted a mature Tom, actually she wanted one bigger then her brother's birds. A doable task, but nothing like putting the pressure on me. We were close enough to Jared to hear him shooting not long after fly down and we could catch a glimpse of a strutting bird in the field, but not close enough to hear JF2 calling or see the action in front of Jared.
Jared scored his First, Second and Third turkey of his short turkey hunting career (his first turkey hunt ever) early Saturday and was tagged out and home by 7:30am.
Twice during the hunt Kaleigh had opportunities to shoot a Jake but stuck to her guns and waited them out in hopes of one of the mature birds we'd been seeing. Well, we never got a look at one or a chance to work one, but they were there and we had loads of fun watching, taping and taking pictures of those knuckle head Jakes.
Here is a picture of one of the Tom's (aka Fingers) Kaleigh was hoping would show up. She took his picture on Sunday after the youth hunt.
Some video of the Jakes being Jakes as they huddle around our decoy just 15 yards from our blind.
